Self Portrait, a long time ago when I was younger…..member of London Photography Club, and free studio time and you could hire out a darkroom for 2 pound an hour! Those were the days!!! / 427 Views on 30/11/09 Ok, I was 32 in this photograph and on Sunday 13th Jan I will be 46. Whats happened since then, well I married an American, I meet him in this year of this photograph. Then I went from London to the Hamptons New York. Then I had a boy called Jet and a girl called Jade. The WTC fell and it was time to come back to Australia. Now I’m back in art school, where I was exactly 28 years ago. Doing what I wanted to do all those years ago. God life is good. I am a lucky woman. I still have the hair, the lips and the hat! The rest I just have MORE OF!

My precious cat, kept trying to nudge her way into the shot, curious what her photog mommy was up to in the studio. I kept trying to get her out of the shot and finally got myself in the perfect pose and the timer went off. She defiantly came back into the shot and looked right into the camera and now i couldn’t imagine this image working without her. Sometimes she likes to have her picture taken. / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- / This image is featured in Jaeda’s Artography Book! / Shades of the Soul – Click to Preview! / / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— / You might also like . . . / / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— / browse Jaeda’s photographic art by category: / dreamscapes, artistic nudes, couples, glamour, erotica, conceptual, sensual, portrait, spiritual, survivor art / /

I’ve always thought that Modigliani’s portrayal of people was unique (proto-cubist?), so here is my homage to him in Jeanne H. Sketched and painted in Corel Painter with my own colour palette. Featured in Digital Brushstrokes group.

Virtue runs before the muse / And defies her skill, / She is rapt, and doth refuse / To wait a painter’s will. Star-adoring, occupied, / Virtue cannot bend her, / Just to please a poet’s pride, / To parade her splendor. The bard must be with good intent / No more his, but hers, / Throw away his pen and paint, / Kneel with worshippers. Then, perchance, a sunny ray / From the heaven of fire, / His lost tools may over-pay, / And better his desire R.W.Emerson I named this painting Virtue after Emerson’s poem “Loss and Gain”, in part because I think the muse has been with me throughout this series…I certainly had “good intent”...I have not had to discard any of the paintings, and all I have done so far have been posted…by now you know that I am not simply painting faces, although on one level it could be seen as such…each portrait tells a story not only of womanhood, but of life in general…they were designed to intrigue, to disturb, to make the viewer think twice about the subject and what it is trying to say…not simply a “Party” like the one before this, but more a statement of what life is or can be…”Virtue” looks out of the frame with parted lips….what is she trying to say about her life?...what does her name mean? Oil painting / This lovely lady turned up to a portrait group as a sitter. I was God smacked. So instead of my usual pen drawing I decided this had to be my next oil painting.
As I painted this face, I thought “this is the girl on the subway”..don’t quite know why, but after posting the painting, I still think so... Watercolour on Yellow tinted St Armand Handmade Linen Paper FEATURED IN YELLOW GALLERY My life is brilliant. / My love is pure. / I saw an angel. / Of that I’m sure. / She smiled at me on the subway. / She was with another man. / But I won’t lose no sleep on that, / ‘Cause I’ve got a plan. You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful. / You’re beautiful, it’s true. / I saw your face in a crowded place, / And I don’t know what to do, / ‘Cause I’ll never be with you. Yeah, she caught my eye, / As we walked on by. / She could see from my face that I was, / Flying high, / And I don’t think that I’ll see her again, / But we shared a moment that will last till the end. You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful. / You’re beautiful, it’s true. / I saw your face in a crowded place, / And I don’t know what to do, / ‘Cause I’ll never be with you. You’re beautiful. You’re beautiful. / You’re beautiful, it’s true. / There must be an angel with a smile on her face, / When she thought up that I should be with you. / But it’s time to face the truth, / I will never be with you*. 5×7 inch artwork done with coloured pencils on drafting film. A huge thank you to Juno Kughler Carlson from Artist Friends Network for providing the reference photo for this art.
Acrylic on canvas / Size: 40×30 cm I completed this this afternoon while I was listening to a PD James radio play. I used a limited palette of Napthol Crimson, Permanent Sap Green and Titanium White. Shades of Modigliani crept into this one, she has quite a sad expression. The background was inspired by an old retro chiffon scarf of my mother’s, A hat is a shameless flatterer, calling attention to an escaping curl, a tawny braid, a sprinkling of freckles over a pert nose, directing the eye to what is most unique about a face. Its curves emphasize a shining pair of eyes, a lofty forehead; its deep brim accentuates the pale tint of a cheek, creates an aura of prettiness, suggests a mystery that awakens curiosity in the onlooker.
