  • Taken at “Old Town” near North Fork, CA. Great combination of rusty iron, bars, and old wood.

  • Ringwood, NJ – Skylands Manor – Sept 2008 – Taken as a hand held HDR to bring out the tones.

  • Inspired by Janis Zroback’s Door Series.

  • This old lock was painted from a photograph supplied to me by Marsha Elliott: http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/marsha-elliott.html. I tried something a little different in that I didn’t put in any hard edged shadows like I have in most of my work. I also exaggerated many of the colors in the wooden planks in order to add additional interest. It is painted with 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# paper. /

  • This lock is a heavily used part of my 1917 garage. The building is nearly falling over and I don’t know why I lock it at all. Someday I will tear it down but for now it is an excellent subject for my series of padlock paintings. It was painted using Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The paper and paint interact to create excellent textures. The original piece is 5”x7” in size. Featured in Old & Rusty group in September 2009. /

  • I have never opened this lock since I have owned this property. I don’t even have a key. I often forget it is even on my old garage but found it an ideal candidate to be part of my padlock series of paintings. It was painted using Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The coarse paper and thick grained paint help to make the metal on this piece come to life. The original work is 7”x5” in size. /

  • The chipping paint and rusty hardware of my 1917 garage are a constant source of inspiration. A new Masterlock adds to the image. It was painted using 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# paper. /

  • This is another in my series of lock paintings. I used my same garage latch but painted in a different type of lock. I also decided to make the door red instead of blue just for fun. It is painted with Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The coarse paper with the large granule paint help to increase the textural effects in this piece. The original is 7”x5” in size. /

  • I liked the interaction between the lock, latch, and red door in this image. I had a slightly more difficult time drawing the lock and the eyelet it passes through to appear correctly in the composition but it worked out just fine. The work is painted with Rublev 18th century reproduction watercolor paint on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper. The interaction of the course grained pigments with the rough Arches paper helps to bring the piece to life with texture. The original work is 7”x5” in size. 10th Place Finisher in the Locked challenge. / Featured in Old and Rusty group in October 2009. /

  • pen and ink drawing of a rusty old lock and hasp on illustration board.
