The Red Bubble Interview – Featuring Peter Marin: / / 1. How does being a creative person and pursuing your creativity affect other aspects of your life? That’s (not) a nice easy question to start with. Let’s put it this way, the other aspects in my life are almost consumed by it. I’m sure I have a deficiency in my brain that prevents me from placing my creative thoughts and desires to one side for any length of time, it drives my wife insane because we are totally opposite in that regard. 2. What advice can you give someone just beginning their creative path? The best advice I can give is to: / a) keep challenging yourself and; b) to learn something new each and every day no matter how small. And network yourself with as many likeminded people as you can. 3. Tell us about a person or moment that has made your time on Red Bubble particularly special or meaningful? Almost impossible to answer this one, there are many people that make my time on RB special. One person that has made me re-analyze what I have been doing regarding my wedding work has been Katialo. His wedding images have inspired me to no end, not that I wish to replicate what he does, but to look and think outside the box for the next photo. 4. What do you hope others will get from your art? That’s a good one. My style of shooting is very simple I think, not overly complicated in it’s construction. So therefore I guess my work is detail orientated to a large degree and that’s the part that I try and get across to the viewer. / 5. Show & tell us about five works on RedBubble that have moved or inspired you? / I can’t single out any five images specifically, that would be quite a task….. so I’ll list the five artists that have inspired me instead. Luka Skracic ~ http://www.redbubble.com/people/lukaskracic / katialo ~ http://www.redbubble.com/people/katialo / Hien Nguyen ~ http://www.redbubble.com/people/methd / koukei ~ http://www.redbubble.com/people/koukei / Heather Hartkamp ~ http://www.redbubble.com/people/deerfield / Interviewer’s Note: / Thank you Peter for allowing me to share these questions of you with other’s here on redbubble. Cheers, Sandra.

I went to the annual Pako Festa held in Geelong West just around the corner from my home. ‘Pako’ is short for ‘Pakington Street’, a bustling, neighbourhood shopping centre. I saw a couple of Bubblers there – I know more were about but didn’t catch up with them on my quick foray into the crowd. I had my Nikon D300 with a 17-200 lens. It was a lively gathering at Serendip Sanctuary near Geelong today. Lots of Geelong Throngers turned up for a BBQ, camera chat and an all-round good time. Thanks to Lisa for her organisation – so successful once again! My photo haul wasn’t great but I managed to find a few to share with you….... “I saw it first! No you didn’t, I did! Get out of my way!” Geelong Throngers will do anything for a photo opp! / “How High?” Peter Marin being accommodating as usual! (Note the hat fetish) / “Flat out like a lizard drinking!” (For those not familiar with the Aussie vernacular this phrase is used when someone is really busy!!!) / Tawny Frogmouth (member of the nightjar species – not really an owl)). This female was sitting on a nesting box successfully ignoring the cameras pointed her way. / Brolga. A member of the crane species. The brolga breeding program is a success story for the Serendip Sanctuary. /

The Kan Tan oil rig, which has been in Geelong for the past couple of months for repairs, left Geelong today. I went down to Point Lonsdale to watch it as it negotiated the treacherous waters of the rip. I wasn’t disappointed! Huge seas, which shook the pier where I was perched with my camera, added some drama to the day. / In some of the shots it is just possible to see tiny figures on the rig which gives some perspective to the enormous swell. 1. / 2. / 3. / 4. / 5. / 6. / 7. /

I saw this front approaching about 8pm so (once again) jumped in the car down to Corio Bay. Managed a few shots before the heavens opened and nature’s ‘fireworks’ started. (Bad luck about the real fireworks for the New Year’s Eve celebrations – although, as I am sitting here, there are some fireworks happening, trying to compete with the lightning) 1. / 2. / 3. / 4. / 5. / 6.
