  • Taken in the evening on Rottnest Island, Western Australia,

  • Taken late in the afternoon on rottnest Island, Western Australia. Cross-processed using RGB curves adjustment with a TTV blend layer.

  • Rottnest Island, Western Australia. Really hit this hard with blending modes to enhance the wonderful evening colours in the sky and water. An evening storm had just passed by as the sun was setting.

  • I have always wanted to have a go at ‘painting with light’. So blacked out the spare room and bought a bunch of tulips. The flowers are lit with a small torch waved over them for 81 seconds and the shutter set to ‘bulb’. Except for the 50% texture overlay (I thought the wardrobe doors were a bit boring) it is exactly as shot. /

  • Rottnest Island, Western Australia /

  • Rottnest Island, Western Australia – a break in the stormy weather.

  • My photos, added texture background and TTV overlays.

  • Three shots of Corio Bay just before sunrise, ‘hand-stitched’ together.

  • Playing around with long exposure and painting with light. Exposure time – 25 seconds. A lot of fun – then I ate the subject matter!!!

  • Sydney Opera House, lit with red lighting and a full moon. Nikon D300 with Nikkor 12-24 wide angle lens. /

  • HDR image created from 3 exposures. Taken at Dog Rocks near Geelong.

  • After another day of sweltering 45 degree heat a quick trip to 13th Beach near Geelong for a quick dip and a sunset.

  • Taken on Saturday evening, February 7th, near Geelong after a day of record-breaking temperatures (47.6 C or 118 F) and, tragically, the worst bushfires in our state’s history with towns virtually wiped out, hundreds of homes lost and, as I write, a death toll of 28 which is expected to rise when rescuers enter areas which were unreachable during the firestorm. I felt voyeuristic and very sad capturing this brilliant sunset caused by so much disaster just a hundred or so kilometres away. I only hope that those who are missing are found alive and that those who have suffered tragedy will somehow find the strength to rebuild their lives. A testament to my elderly parents who lost their home and everything they owned in the 1983 Ash Wednesday bushfires and a tribute to their resilience in starting again.

  • Sipadan Island off the east coast of Borneo, one of the top 5 dive spots in the world. I was fortunate to visit there in 2007 and I have been revisiting my photos of that amazing trip. This was on the boat trip home to Mabul Island after an unforgettable day of snorkeling the coral ree, swimming with its unique inhabitants, including green turtles. / Taken with the Nikon D200 I had at the time with my trusty Nikkor 12-24 wide angle lens.

  • Corio Bay, in Geelong. Finally, a still morning and a sunrise! HDR created with Photomatix tone-mapping filter and a tonal adjustment layer. / Nikon D300 with Nikon 17-200 lens.

  • A cold and foggy dawn at the Dog Rocks near Geelong. Added texture layer. / Nikon D300 with 18-200mm lens.

  • Another shot of the Dog Rocks at sunrise on foggy morning. / Aggressively adjusted the levels and cross-processed the image. / Added my sky photo. Added several texture layers in various blend modes. / Nikon D300 with 18-200 mm lens /

  • Couldn’t resist another visit to Bell’s Beach at dawn this morning to have another crack at the huge surf – and I wasn’t disappointed! It was still powering away. / No HDR tweaking – just some levels adjustment and slight colour correction. Mother Nature did the rest. / Nikon D300 with 70-200 1:2.8G lens and 1.7x extender. /

  • Bell’s Beach, Victoria, Australia. / Nikon D300 with 18-20 mm lens.

  • A group of monkeys huddled together on a very cold day at Melbourne Zoo. / Nikon D300 with 18-200 mm lens

  • Corio Bay, Geelong. / Nikon D300 with 18 – 200 mm lens

  • One of a series of shots at Bell’s Beach early one morning when a huge swell was running. / HDR created with tonal adjustment. Textures and colour blend layers added. / Nikon D300 with Nikon 70-200mm lens.

  • HDR created in Photomatix with 3 differently exposed images and tone-mapping filter applied. Shot against a plain cardboard background with 4 texture layers blended over the image. / Nikon D300 with 60mm prime lens

  • Photo as shot with subtle sepia processing and fine grain added. / Nikon D300 with 18 – 200 mm lens. Shot at a Koukei workshop.
