1840 v2.0 / With the original versions of these pictures I was not able to use all the shots because they where damaged. But now, four years later, and with Photo Shop CS3, I’m able to rescue some really great pictures and show them now with pride. / This series was done in the middle of the woods, around the middle of Dec, 2002. It was freezing! The hot chocolate helped though. Most of these pictures are with Theak & Alex standing together, this was not a direction, and they were doing this out of a need for warmth! Half of these pictures were taken using a Nikon F, or F2 I believe, (no markings on the camera), and the other half with a Canon G3 digital camera. / Great makeup job by Rhiana, and of course, the whole look and feel of this shoot would not have been possible if not for the styling of Elisa. / Photo by Jef Harris / http://www.jefharris.net

‘Harry’ the Hippopotamus – Werribee Open Range – Victoria, Australia – Nov 07 This male is the only one of a breeding program currently at Werribee. I snapped him just after he had finished brushing his teeth on the log behind him’ Believe it or not I think he had just rinsed his mouth out! Its his 30th birthday next weekend~! March 15.

Every shoot has a story. Well, all my shoots do. Every single one. Most stories are kept between me and the people involved. This shoot’s story is so fun I thought / I’d share it. And with most good stories, this one is short and sweet. / It’s 2AM. I get a call from Michea. She’s drunk. HEY JEF!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING, she yells. “Not much, just working”, I know what’s coming. / “You wanna do a shoot?” she says. / I was there in ten minutes. / Nuff said.

Model – Meluxine The height of winter, she’s laying on wet frozen ground, in a vintage dress and my ugg boots, full to the brim with Hungry Jacks, watching me dance like a crazy person with a head cold around her when suddenly the sun breaks through right at the perfect moment, and she manages to pull of that look like it’s as easy as microwave popcorn. / This girl rocks. The Snowy Owl – The Snowy Owl is a large, diurnal white Owl that has a rounded head, yellow eyes and black bill. The feet are heavily feathered. A distinctive white Owl, their overall plumage is variably barred or speckled with thin, black, horizontal bars or spots. Females and juveniles are more heavily marked than males – adult males may be almost pure white, although they have up to three tail bands. Adult females are distinctly barred throughout, and have from four to six tail bands. Immatures are very heavily barred throughout, and dark spotting may codominate or dominate the overall plumage. Snowy Owl calls are varied, but the alarm call is a barking, almost quacking krek-krek-krek-krek; the female also has a softer mewling pyee-pyee-pyee-pyee or “prek-prek-prek”... So unlike the one they use in the Harry Potter films, this Hedwig is actually female. They use male birds to portray her in the film because a bird with an all white plumage looks more impressive they think! bit of unless knowledge for you eh?

This series marks my first time shooting Alexandra Rodionova in a swim suit. So to celebrate we headed an hour outside of any major cities to a secluded very large mansion. This series was shot shot in the middle of the Winter, so we where quite happy to find out that the mansion had a huge inside swimming pool. So together with a Calvin Klein swim suit Alex and I set out to conquer the world of swim suit photography. Next stop, the Bahamas. / Shot on location in Chesterville, Ontario / Make-up by Rhianna Hogan.

The Fearless shoot was my chance to really plan a shoot unique to my creative relationship with Alexandra Rodionova. My idea was to compare fashion of today with fashion of around the time I was born, (1967). I used two full issues of Andy Warhol’s original Interview Magazine for the background. This was really hard for me, because these are really rare and really expensive. But if I wasn’t going to put everything I had into this it just wouldn’t be worth doing. This was one of those shoots were everything came together.
