  • Macro shot of a cotton harlequin bug

  • This was a statement on how the Indigenous tribes were fooled in their negotiations for their land and treaties.

  • Believe it or not, these are all the the same species of Ladybird. They are the notoriously invasive Harlequin Ladybird Harmonia Axyridis, the most invasive ladybird on earth. It is also known as the Multicoloured Asian Ladybird and the Halloween Ladybird. It has a very variable appearance, which can make it difficult to tell apart from our native ladybirds. The harlequin ladybird was introduced to North America in 1988, where it is now the most widespread ladybird species on the continent. It has already invaded much of northwestern Europe, and arrived in Britain in the summer of 2004. I photographed all these variants on my runner bean plants, in South London, where fortunately for the ladybirds, but not for me, there is a large supply of black aphids. Technical Details: Camera: Nikon D200 / Lens: Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 / ISO: 800 / Flash: Speedlight SB-800 / Exposure: 1/250 sec at f/32 Post Processing: Photoshop CS3 © 2008 John Hooton Photography

  • Strong darks and vibrant patches make this self portrait a personal favourite. It’s a bad likeness, as it’s too complimentary to actually be me. The painting has no deep meaning. It was painted with fairly heavy impasto. Nobody but myself likes it, but I have enough other things to lose sleep over to worry about it.

  • I was inspired with the times of the Harlequin for this painting this is an acrylic on canvas ,i sold this painting recently it took me ages to paint especially all the details in the dress but i thought i’d make it available to buy as cards etc / thanks for looking XX / Copyright © Amanda cass. • This colorful large piece by Las Vegas Artist Jerold Frederick Sowles AKA Rhinovangogh was first shown at the Georgtown Gallery in Washington DC where the artist lived and painted for four years. The piece depicts the artist in younger days and reflects a vitality, motion and exhuberance borne of youthful energy. The colorful spheres are a design element the artist has added successfully to many of his pieces. / Original work is 35 3/4 ” X 75” / Medium: acrylic paint on canvas.

  • This original piece by Las Vegas Artist Jerold Frederick Sowles AKA Rhinovangogh was first shown at the Geogertown Gallery in Washington DC. It is a colorful depiction of an angry and/or distracted Harlequin who is either sending a message or letting something important slip from his grasp. The distant hills of Northern Virgina are across the Potomac River to the west. The seemingly unreachable empty boat represents lonliness and isolation as it floats far out in the middle tethered to a green glass fishing float . A rare Red Crowned Crane symbolizing luck, longevity and fidelity lofts simultaneously with the yellow balloon. The green fishing bouy float also exists in Rhinovangogh’s first painting of model Hyacinth Yun (1997) in a work titled “Marooned” and suggests a strong link to her. / Size of original: 48” X 48” / Medium of Original: Acrylic on Canvas / original now being auctioned on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dllViewItem&item=180373317272
