i painted 2 of these girls after a visit to Japan where we just loved the street theatre of the Harajuku district, where everyone dresses in the most amazing outifts, really creative and no-one blinks and eye or stares or considers anything unusual. My daughters and I love the whole attitude of expressing yourself thru your appearance and if people don’t like it….they don’t have to look!

Part of a project I did in Tokyo where we found complete strangers and got them involved in light painting. We met this guy in Harajuku. He was really proud of his American car which was a ‘78 Monte Carlo jacked on hydraulics. The color lights in the back were done by hand by his ‘crew’. Info: Shot with a Canon 400D through a 17-85mm lens. The lights in the back are LEDs and cathodes. The ‘fiz-iks’ logo is also light and is done with a soft box, a stencil, and a flash. This image is straight out of the camera with no editing or post processing.

Why do they queue for !? Have I no idea. / It’s a bit of a mystery you see… / Up there in Harajuku (district in Tokyo), / theres a tiny park (where the smoking zone is), / and every now and then, people (girls mostly) gather / in a queue, and until this day i haven’t found out why. / And one late summer afternoon, when sun was already setting / down, there they were again. This time my cam was with me, / and the sun-light was just perfect for a somewhat interesting shot. Harajuku.Tokyo.
