We had a powerful snowstorm on Saturday evening. The visibility was poor and the wind was buffeting the trees. We lost power a few times but we hunkered down in the house and managed to watch a movie. And there was no way I was going out in that. But I opened the back door early in the evening, and this is what I got. / When I downloaded the images I really liked this one.

Title thanks to my husband… I was stumped and when I asked my husband for a suggestion for the title he said the daisies were natures beauty and shone amongst a gloomy winters day, which to him is the essence of winter. I stood in the snow behind the tripod, so quietly that one bird landed on my lens! What joy. I couldn’t actually say we bonded, but I was thrilled. I’ve had birds land on my hat, but never one that I could see so closely. Featured in Alaska ~ Beyond Your Dreams – Thank you! Shot in RAW. Slight curves adjustment, at the suggestion of Eivor. The snowfall made it necessary to bump up the ISO to 320. I tried ISO 640 at one point, but those looked a tad grainy. This is a male Common Redpoll in today’s snowfall. Note snowflake on his back. Our area has so far eluded Mt. Redoubt’s harsh volcanic particles, although Alaska Airlines and FedEx had to suspend all flights in and out yesterday. There was an ice storm a few weeks ago that covered all the trees in icy rain drops. The next day the pine tree in my backyard looked magical when the sun light it the drops… Shot in tungsten with white balance adjustments in Lightroom. Enjoy!

I took this photo last year in Upstate NY. My calico cat, Little Bear had never seen snow before and these were her tracks. After watching her walk through the snow and towards the sunlight I felt that she was like me wanting that warm Florida sun. Living in Florida for the first 9+ years of her life snow was NOT something she was a fan of… and NEITHER AM I…lol…:) I am moving back home to Florida next month! YIPPEE!! Needless to say… I most likely will not be taking any more snow photos for a VERY VERY VERY VERY long time! This is Little Bear.. now 10 1/2 years old.
