Well Thanks Giving isn’t actually until tomorrow but i woke up to a chilly -7C and a frosty greeting from the world. Hope you enjoy the series. i braved the chill, tossed on the layers and ventured out for some frosty shots taken with a canon xsi lens 17-35 mm

Illustration of a large, old, antique metal key, a wonderful gift for someone moving to a new home, a congratulations or a twenty-first birthday. The good news is that I have finally found myself a more permanent home! The key here is the one to my cellar and isn’t it a gorgeous old key? It’s large and solid and rusty and slightly skewed but it lies heavy in my hand and I thought it the perfect symbol for the beginning of a new life here in France. It has a sense of solidity and permanence and is, I hope, a good omen for the future.

Almond Slice Line a square 23cm or 10” x 5 1/2 ” slab tray with baking paper / . / Base / 125g butter / 1/4 cup (40g) icing sugar mixture or icing sugar / 1 cup s.r. flour / 1 teaspoon vanillia (optional) Beat butter and icing sugar in a small bowl with an electric hand beater until creamed and stir in flour. Press into tray and bake at 180oC or 350oC for 12 minutes. Remove from oven. In the mean time make filling. Filling 1/2 cup jam of choise, i used strawberry / 4 egg whites / 1 3/4 cups almond meal / 3/4 cup caster sugar / 4 drops of almond essence or vanilla / 1/2 cup flaked almonds. When base is cooked spread jam over. Then wisk egg whites until soft peaks form. Fold in sugar, almond meal and essence. Spoon mixture over the base and smooth top. Cover with flaked almonds. Bake for about 25-30 minutes until golden. Cool in pan. Cut into squares and dust with icing sugar. >
