Find me a cheekier beef horse than this, and I’ll gladly give you my favourite teapot. Detail, colour, taste and pure cheek – this cheeky cow’s got the lot. To quote what she said to me just after I took the picture: “Moo”. And you can’t argue with that. Proud of your kitchen? Imagine this beauty on your wall. As a picture, I mean. Not the actual cow. December 22 to January 20 Traditional / Capricorn Traits Practical and prudent / Ambitious and disciplined / Patient and careful / Humorous and reserved On the dark side…. Pessimistic and fatalistic / Miserly and grudging Capricorn is one of the most stable and (mostly) serious of the zodiacal types. These independent, rocklike characters have many sterling qualities. They are normally confident, strong willed and calm. These hardworking, unemotional, shrewd, practical, responsible, persevering, and cautious to the extreme persons, are capable of persisting for as long as is necessary to accomplish a goal they have set for themselves. They are reliable workers in almost any profession they undertake. They are the major finishers of most projects started by the ‘pioneering’ signs; with firm stick-to-it-ness they quickly become the backbone of any company they work for. Capricornians make of themselves, resourceful, determined managers; setting high standards for themselves and others. They strive always for honesty in their criticism of self, they respect discipline from above and demand it from those beneath them. In their methodical, tough, stubborn, unyielding way, they persist against personal hardship, putting their families and/or their work before their own needs and welfare to reach their objectives long after others have given up and fallen by the wayside. In fact when practical ability allied with the drive of ambition are required in employees to make a project succeed, Capricornians are the people to hire. They plan carefully to fulfill their ambitions (which often include becoming wealthy), they are economical without meanness, and able to achieve great results with minimum effort and expense. Because of their organizing ability they are able to work on several projects simultaneously. They have a great respect for authority but may not, if they reach high rank, be willing to listen to other opinions on things they are directly responsible for. As the ranking authority figure in a given situation they expect their underlings to be as self disciplined as they themselves are, and to perform every task undertaken to the highest standard. / They are, nevertheless, fair as well as demanding. Among their equals they are not always the most pleasant of work fellows for they are reserved and too conservative, valuing tradition more than innovation, however valuable the latter, and they are often humorless. There is also a tendency to pessimism, melancholy and even unhappiness which many Capricornians are unable to keep to themselves, especially if they fail personally. In the extreme this trait can make them a very depressed individual; ecstatic happiness alternating with the most wretched kind of misery which is so subconsciously buried that he or she should seek help if such emotions become frequent. For the above reason, capable Capricorn should spend many hours in meditation, gathering the strength to control such inner emotions. The swings in mood are not the only reason some Capricornians deserve the adjective based on their name – capricious. They can be surprisingly and suddenly witty and subtle for the quiet, reserved individuals they seem to be, and they also have a tendency to ruin things by unexpected and utterly irresponsible bouts of flippancy. In certain individuals in whom the characteristic is strong, the temptation to do this has to be resisted with iron self-control. Another unexpected quality in some Capricornians is an interest in the occult which persists in spite of their naturally skeptical turn of mind. Their intellects are sometimes very subtle. They think profoundly and deeply, throughly exploring all possibilities before deciding on a ‘safe’ alternative. They have good memories and an insatiable yet methodical desire for knowledge. They are rational, logical and clearheaded, have good concentration, delight in debate in which they can show off their cleverness by luring their adversaries into traps and confounding them with logic. In their personal relationships they are often ill-at-ease, if not downright unhappy. They are somewhat self-centered but not excessively so, wary and cautious around people they do not know very well, preferring not to meddle with others and in turn not to allow interference with themselves, thus they tend to attract people who do not understand them. Casual acquaintances they will treat with diplomacy, tact and, above all, reticence. They make few good friends but are intensely loyal to those they do make, and they can become bitter, and powerful enemies. They sometimes dislike the opposite sex and test the waters of affection gingerly before judging the temperature right for marriage. Once married, however, they are faithful, though inclined to jealousy. Most Capricornians marry for life. Their occupations can include most professions that have to do with math or money and they are strongly attracted to music. They can be economists, financiers, bankers, speculators, contractors, managers and real estate brokers. They excel as bureaucrats, especially where projects demanding long-term planning and working are concerned, and their skill in debate and love of dialectic make them good politicians. They are excellent teachers, especially as principals of educational establishments where they have the authority to manage and organize without too much intimacy with the staff members. If working with their hands, they can become practical scientists, engineers, farmers and builders. The wit and flippancy which is characteristic of certain Capricornians may make some turn to entertainment as a career.

A few miles passed Tortilla Flats, which is outside of Apache Junction, Arizona, this wonderful little oasis pops into view, part of Salt River. Although it is nearly Christmas, the vibrant yellow foliage remains. / Shot with Olympus Stylus 720SW auto, handheld.

/ / “Beach Picnic” is a pencil drawing which I’ve coloured digitally, I hope you like this image with mother and daughter in similar sundresses. As a child we enjoyed beach picnics all the time, mum would make us special fried chicken (better than Kentucky Fried) and we would go out on the boat to a little island, where i would play with soldier crabs for hours on end, while dad fished and mum sunbaked… they were wonderful times. We also went on the annual Beach Picnic to Bonny Hills with the church and we were great friends with the priest back in those days who was a top water skier.. We would see so many things at Bonny Hills, sea snakes slithered past in the creek where we were swimming and there were amazing white clay deposits in the sand….hours of fun were had by all… not to mention we even had a little mass there… top fun :)

Summer Breeze a beautiful poem by the same title by a dear friend of mine Anne Van Alkemade / Inspired by the song Summer Breeze / by Seals and Croft Also inspired by myself and my experience of having bugs and insects come to try and take up residence in my ears… scrabbling around in there, getting all comfy…while I’m going crazy…click beetles, houseflies and spiders so far have all tried this… lol This is a girl who has an affinity with nature, and as the summer breezes begin to blow here in Australia…....the animals are drawn to live in her hair thinking that it must be branches of a tree… yes, my hair’s that dry… :) I thought it a fitting one for summer, hope you like her… Pencil drawing took me about 3 hours / Digital colouring – 10 hours / Total time 13 hours

Bramble Rainbowtree…. she throws her arms skyward reaching to the heavens above… spots, stripes, flowers and streamers are added to convey the celebration and joyfulness in her spontaneous gesture…. ...Little Bramble Rainbowtree began as a little pencil drawing inspired by my beautiful niece Maya, who has the longest hair ever! This so reminds me of her, except that Maya’s hair is much more beautiful and much darker in colour. ...I have coloured Bramble Rainbowtree digitally, I hope you like this special fairy :) ...a great little vintage design for big and little girls, friends, birthdays, gifts, bedroom decor, nursery walls, etc.

/ / I was thinking about when I was around 9 years of age see me at 9 / / ....and I was reminiscing about our pet Blue-ringed Octopus we kept in the fishtank…. he was only tiny, but provided hours of entertainment…when he got riled up, he would put on a fantastic colour show for us…but it occurred to me how hard it must be to be a venomous creature… because you wouldn’t get many hugs, even if you wanted them! / / We spent a lot of our days at Shelley Beach, Port Macquarie and dad caught many strange and wonderful things, which we kept in our saltwater tanks… we also lived at the police lockup, so we had the human variety locked up beside us…and mum would cook meals for them, i would dance for them while they had their exercise break out on the front step, with nothing at all to stop them wandering off…cept me doing a little dance… i must have been riveting as none of them ever tried to escape…and we were kinda friends with the prisoners back in those days… some even sketched and drew pictures of myself and siblings, after getting my mum to go and buy them a little pack of coloured pencils… those were very interesting days :) / / Anyway, we have a bit of a history with capturing wild things in our family, a bit like Steve and Bindi I guess…. so here’s a little drawing, digitally painted, inspired by those days I remember with such fondness… a little girl in her bikini at the beach with a little ‘brunch coat’ as we used to call them over the top…..hosting a dear little Blue-ringed Octopus on her head.. / / There is a funny story I have to share with you too, which is possibly why i put the occy on her head… my father used to catch occy’s for fishing bait (with his bare hands) and stick ‘em in a bucket… his method of killing the poor darlings, was to bite their heads, in the eye area, i kid you not…he believed it the most humane way…. / / To cut the long of it short….. Dad was driving his little truck along after a catch in the Creek at Kingy…when he felt something very strange on the back of his head….the occy he’d caught had crawled out of the bucket….. and where do you think he was…? lol I do miss our menagerie of animals friends, back then i had no idea they were very unusual creatures to keep, including a baby crocodile, a turkey running around the courtyard… and all manner of other strange and wonderful things.

/ / There’s an Elephant in my Garden / a drawing on catridge from my Art Diary / digitally coloured I hope that the grownups who look at this painting will remember something special from their childhood, some hopeful feeling, which will help them through today’s difficulties. There are all the colours of the rainbow in this piece, to remind us that there is always hope, no matter how hopeless it seems sometimes. The rainbow is a sign of hope. Children See/Children Do powerful message for grownups I hope that all the children who look at this painting will drift off into a faraway place in their imagination and feel wonderful for a while, especially if things are getting them down…and if life is wonderful, may this little picture add to the wonder and spark the imagination.
