How do you create your best work. Do you plan and think about what you want to achieve, do you previsualise the end result in your mind before you even start, do you let your environment inspire you and make the decision on the spot. Do you tune out and go into a diffrent place to get inspiration. Does your art or photography just happen. I am normally going out with a very general idea and then let the environment inspire me. My best work or best shots happen when I stop thinking and start being. This may sound extremely cheesy but it is like the camera dissapears and there is just me and the subject left. When do you create your best work?

I have been a member of redbubble for a couple of moths now and have been reading about people selling their art and saying what a great buzz it is.To be honest I was getting a little frustrated, as success is uplifting, failure is equally demoralising, now I am happy to report I have sold my very first card! A big Thank You to whoever bought it and I hope that the product you recieve lives up to your expectations, see there is still doubt there! Well I am chuffed as we say in these parts so a very BIG THANK YOU to the buyer and Redbubble for giving me the opportunity to make an exhibition of myself. If you are waiting for that first sale be patient it will come.

  • Not much really happens in Saudi, so they have to get Tupman on the Radio to keep the masses entertained!

Sorry about the long title! I’ve just been asked if I can be interviewed on the radio over here to talk about my photography and what I’m doing here on Redbubble!!! Kind of surreal really.. there I am happily taking a few snaps, the next minute, I’m selling prints and guesting on Saudi FM! I’m thinking, 1: the world has gone doolally, 2: nothing else of interest is happening right now in Saudi and 3: I don’t have a radio! Ok, so perhaps it’s not the best medium to get my photography across and it does help when someone you know works in local radio and spots what you have been up to on Redbubble, but I am incredibly honoured and it will be a great advert for Redbubble! I just have to keep saying to them.. “Listen, I’m just an amateur making 30pence on the sale of a card or 2!” Hope I dont get tie-tongued… ...tongue-tied!

  • A new year, A new town, What else?

Well here i am, making my first entry into something i never thought i’d do. I guess i thought nobody would ever read this. / Maybe they won’t. / Maybe this is just for me. / In any case I’m sitting here at nine minutes past midnight on the eighth of January, foul year of our lord 2008. Wondering if, anything new will happen this time around. Not in any ordinary sense, like for example if the bin men will start to come on a Thursday rather than a Wednesday. I’m talking about something far more prestigious, will something come around the bend and take me some place special. / Probably not. / One can always hope. / I’ll probably have to go and find it. Which is a great shame since my car is 300 miles away and i fear that if i were to stray more than a few hundred meters away from my cage here at 41, I’ll most probably be raped and pillaged by the hordes of hoi polloi and plebs. I know that makes me sound like a snob, but just you come to this edge of the world and you can find out for yourself that there are lower forms of life than a Prokaryote. / This is starting to sound like some sort of depressed introduction to a suicide note. Far from it. I’m just typing whatever pops into my head at this god forsaken hour being in a slight state of delirium, mostly from lack of sleep. I would sleep, but i can’t. At first i thought i had insomnia but promptly discarded this idea when i realized that i sleep for around 14-16 hours at a time. It’s just i can’t sleep till around 3am . I’ve been told “it’s because of all that coke you drink”. Well, just to set the record straight, it’s fucking Dr pepper. / I realize theres not much talk of photography so far, so maybe I’ll have a dabble… / I haven’t taken a ‘proper’ photograph for months. Mainly due to the fact that by the time i get up, it’s dark again. / Terrible excuse. / Actually it is a little depressing that i haven’t produced anything new for this long. Even the last two additions to the gallery were old photographs reworked. This isn’t to say the ideas aren’t there, right now many scribblings and doodles lay dormant in the back pocket of these jeans. These will come to life very soon, i promise. / My fingers are tired now. And cold. Whats wrong with the damn heating? Yours frostily. A.J.W. P.S. Christmas was pretty great. As was New year. P.P.S. This has ended like a letter hasn’t it?

  • So What Happens When It Dries? It Is Time for the Final Touch...
    by Gordon Merrick Justice

Painters… painters wait anxiously for their pigments to dry, whether for the stability to craft upon the canvass another layer of oil, or to allow it to be handled without fear of the errant thumb or clumsy admirer. The sculptor… often the drying is more bane than benefice, but still, it must dry before it can be permanent. The druidic soul… always smears of dirt upon the hands and clothing. Yet, when the soil is saturated and the mulch beds mud, there is no righteousness or beauty in placing the living seed or sapling to its death. All three here above, I speak of waters – the stuff of life. All three here above I think of how water also has its ungraspable hand in the second thought, yet primary life of art. The art that keeps us alive. We have all come to terms with the water of the earth, but I would seek to find one of you who has found peace, true peace, with the waters of the spirit. How they ebb, flow, overwhelm and then go absent. I am finding my reserves dangerously low these last days, and the sudden drought has already opened deep cracks along my surface – deep cracks which are inching closer to my core. This is not depression, or writer’s block. Outside circumstance or loss of my peripheral. It is simply that unexplainable, when the heart pumps with luminescence, the eyes remain firefly beacons, the mind is overflowing with… what? Perhaps sand, but the sand that is the makings of cathedral stained glass. The driving is still top down in the sun of that youthful period between insecurity and hesitant acceptance. Smiles. Wishes… ...And a pair of hands that are so brittle from lack of that whetting, wetting, and the wedding of want and ability. My cornucopia is no longer overflowing with battle plans against this hungry earth. My view of what is beauty shines, but starkly, mundanely, human of glow. Even my… well, my applications… they have pulled a trick of language and defaulted. It will pass. It always has before. Sometimes a rain comes in misty sideways gusts, and the recovery requires months, years… sometimes there is a deluge, a monsoon, a drowning of the earth and its people as I knew them within it, just in a matter of days. I am glad though, for a moment here, because I want all of you (and with my drive gone, somehow I believe there is no reason all of you shouldn’t… or will not) to tell the stories of your own droughts, the return of the rain, and the color of the dove which brought back that olive branch to your will. Perhaps you do not see it as a lack of water… I do. I want very much to know what all of you, each of you see it as. Writer, graphic designer, photographer alike, I know you have this strength to write a gift of merit for the rest of us – give us all your disease, your symptoms, and your cure. (I have this faith that you won’t let me down… I am not expecting a mere 5-10 replies out of the 500,000+ of you, and for that, perhaps that alone, the 250,000 of you who are artists are going to give this to your fellow artists… or if for no one else… one 25 year old desert who needs to see the waterfalls again. I know you will because, unlike when I am a 48-hour machine, asking earnestly and never believing my own sincerity as to the dedication of the passionate – bards, bristle handed painters, viewfinders, vagabonds and gypsies… all you beautiful humans… today, I can only see what my mind processes). So thank you for the gifts in advance. I am certain each one of you will find a muse’s gift under the pillow as well. If only you believe we all care enough to grant a wish to the thirsty.

Well, I’m just kind of “batching” it tonight… Gary’s off doing a 12 hour shift at the cop shop. Gary, my husband, works 2 jobs, his second part time job on the weekends is as a police officer in a small town not far from where we live. Actually, it’s a township, but they do have a police force, no mayor or city council, but they do have a panel of 3 trustees that act in the same capacity. Anyway, he’s patrolling the little country streets of Hinckley, Ohio where the Buzzards come back every spring, which is a huge big deal in Hinckley & Medina County in general. Here’s a little blurb for the curious …. Hinckley’s Buzzards And…. let’s see, what else ? Oh !!! That’s right…. I sold a mounted print of “Song of the Morninglark” !!!! I’m so excited ! A sale of a mounted print ! Yay !!! Now I’m official !!! Thank you sooooo much Laruna for buying my print !!! Thank you again Lauren, for buying Morninglark hon. hug I still can’t believe you did that. For my newfound friends here on Redbubble, Morninglark was bought by my good friend Lauren, whom I’ve known for a couple of years now. We first met on caedes.net, along with several other friends who are over here as well. ;-) Lauren, just like all of my friends, has always been there for me & has always been so supportive of my art … & well…. supportive. Period. And now, this. I wish I could really go nuts here, but I think all I can really say is a simple…. but heartfelt…. Thank You Lauren.

  • A Virtual Gallery - What happens when RB Artists inspire each other
    by Adriana Glackin

Tracy Wallace and Dee Boylan may not know it, ...

Tracy Wallace and Dee Boylan may not know it, but their images are featuring in this virtual gallery out in hyperspace! Tracy’s image of Clumsy Misfortunes started it all off. Such a special image and reading the comments started me thinking about the story of the little clown girl, which lead me to create All Grown Up, then toward twilight (with tracy’s permission, of course) Then today, I see that another RedBubbler, Dee Boylan has also been inspired to create When I grow up… all from tracy’s original image. All we need now is a writer to write up the story of this little clown girl as she goes through life. hint, hint And with all this talk of galleries and exhibitions, I was curious to see what all four images would look like side-by-side. All we need now is to imagine the writer reciting the story to the packed audience…. sigh Well, we can dream, can’t we… _gallery space courtesy of: stanford contemporary art centre

That’s my prediction. Set up our calendars now , and within the next few months (if not sooner, and I hope it is), Redbubble will start converting them to the 2010 months. We can make it happen. A lot can happen in a month and I’ve been lucky in that 13 of my images have been featured since I last posted a journal and I’ve had three top 10 finishes in challenges. Many many thanks to all involved and a great big THANK YOU to so many for support and comments. I’ve had websites off and on for a while now but I now have a new site which I’m really pleased about. It has taken a while to get up and running but it’s there at last. I’m not going to say that it’s a final version because it will always evolve and change. I wanted it to be minimal and that has been the hardest thing :) There’s also a video on there and a couple of links to some great bubblers. Please let me know what you think about the site if you have the time. With many thanks for your great support, comments, and most important of all, friendship. Jim ;)
