There are many dozens of different cherry tree varieties, most of which bloom for just a couple of days in spring.
A very folkish minimalist drawing of sakura blooms, a pagoda and islands in a lake. Serene and lovely! Digitally Illustrated by Elledeegee, 2008.
In Japan people have picnics under the cherry blossom, these picnics are known as “Hanami.” The park was completely mobbed and overflowing and I found this young boy crouched on the grass in front of all the action, and I loved how he just observed everything and everyone around him. In the heart of all the action he looks very relaxed and at ease.
Who knew that Edmonton had a Sakura tree? The Japanese lettering in the title says “hanami” which refers to viewing the cherry blossoms as they bloom. This is quite an annual event in Japan and people will camp out for days at a good location to save the spot for their friends or coworkers.
The time in japan when the cherry blossoms come to life!
My job takes me to many nations. This year I am in Korea, and of course I have my Nikon. I wish I was celebrating Hanami in Tokyo or Osaka, or even Kyoto again. Alas I am here but all is not lost. This year I took some beautiful pictures that I would like to share with you all. I took this panorama with my Nikon D40X and turned it into an HDR with photomatix. Then I did some more post processing with Photoshop Elements. Finally it turned out fine. Photoshop kept putting these dark areas all over the picture so more post processing had to go in. Thankfully it turned out to be beautiful. The lense I used was my little 18-55.
The cherry blossom viewing season in Japan throws the whole country into a frenzy. Blue tarps cover the ground in popular blossom viewing parks and sake flows freely as the Japanese use “flower viewing” as a great excuse to party with friends.
