  • BEST VIEWED LARGER / HAPPY HALLOWEEN / Caught this at the Sydney Group Meet – Eerie Is’nt it ? The doors of the St Michael the Archangel Chapel (commenced in 1886) . Rookwood Necropolis, at 283 hectares (700 acres), is one of the largest burial grounds in the world and one of Australia’s oldest cemeteries. It has been in continual use since it was established in 1868 and over 800,000 people have been interred within the grounds. The headstones and monuments reflect the history of the colony Of New South Wales and the development of the city of Sydney. The heritage values of the cemetery are protected by an act of Parliament. / / The original 81 hectare (200 acre) heritage area, located in the north western corner of the Necropolis, is subject to a Permanent Conservation Order and represents the largest and one of the finest surviving examples of a Victorian public cemetery anywhere in the world. Rookwood was originally designed in the grand gardenesque style, fashionable in the mid to late 19th Century. The brick gutters which defined the ornate landscaping can still be seen, together with the highly decorative monuments and other features including the chapel of St Michael the Archangel and the Serpentine Canal with its elegant ponds, bridges and urns. These were set in formal gardens with rest houses to cater for mourners and visitors This shot was the result of a Sydney group meetup on Saturday 14th June, the site definitely has a feel to it. Ive never seen so many black crows . The site definitely has an atmosphere with graves dating back to the early days of the colony.. In its day there was a rail service with a special funeral train that left from a purpose built station at Sydney’s Central Railway station. Unfortunately the special platforms at Rookwood being demolished, but the “Mortuary Station” still exists at Central Station. you can get an idea what these stations looked like at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regents_Street_railway_station,_Sydney

  • This is an original linoleum print that I created for a Dia De Los Muertos Exhibition. It was inspired by a visit to a old historical cemetery during a 4th of July celebration. There were kids climbing all over the head stones and there were some strobe flashing fireworks going off and everything was illuminated and the children’s shadows were being cast against the stones and envisioned that those who were buried there were somehow aware of the activity and, in fact, the dead were gathered together to celebrate the living. Dia De Los Muertos, or Day Of The Dead, is a celebration by the living to welcome back the dead. I have studied the origins of this Mexican Holiday and subscribe to some of it’s tenants; that there are times when the dead walk among us.

  • People of the State of New York v. UnEasy Complaint for violation of Sections 125.15 [1] (Unlawful Re-Animation) and 125.23 [2] (Manslaughter) of the New York State Penal Code. COMPLAINANT’S STATEMENT OF FACTS CONSTITUTING THE OFFENSE OR VIOLATION: On or about October 29, 2009 in New York City, in the State of New York, defendant UnEasy did cause unlawfully and intentionally, and without adequate provocation, the deaths and subsequent re-animation of two persons named in the indictment as John Doe and Jane Doe. / / It is further alleged that, at the time of the offense, defendant UnEasy had previously been found by a Court of Competent Jurisdiction to have been deceased and subsequently re-animated unlawfully pursuant to the Statute governing Re-Animation of Deceased Persons, enacted into Law January 1, 2009. It is further alleged that the current residence of defendant UnEasy is located in the city of New York, New York County, New York. BASIS OF COMPLAINANT’S CHARGE AGAINST THE ACCUSED: (See attached affidavit which is incorporated as part of this Complaint) Excerpts from transcript: Interrogation at Manhattan South. Present: Detectives John Rebus, Philip Mayberry. Defendant, being adjudged UNDEAD as a matter of law is deemed to have forfeited his rights under the Fourth and Fifth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution. Defendant [hereafter “D”]: I want a lawyer / Rebus: You’re a Zombie. You ain’t got any rights pal. / D: I’m a Re-Animated Person, NOT [emphasis added] a Zombie. / Rebus: You’re a homicidal maniac you piece of shit. Where were you Thursday October 29th? / D: I was at Yankee Stadium watching the Series. / Mayberry: You believe this fucking Zombie John? / Rebus: Anyone see you there shithead? / D: Yeah – it’s a baseball stadium – Duh! / Rebus: Well we got two zombies place you on the lower east side that night, having a nice munch, pigging out on brains. What you say to that maggot? / D: Case of mistaken identity. All us Re-Animateds look alike. / [Time: 1:35 a.m. Abe Ziperski, Special Advocate for the Re-Animated enters room] / Ziperski: Gentlemen I’d like a word with my client – alone! / [Time: 1:36 a.m. Interview terminated] Defendant, having been found guilty by a Jury of the Living and sentenced to De-Animation, made this statement to the Court before being led away: I would like to make a statement on behalf of all illegal Re-Animated Persons whom I believe are being persecuted by a system designed to preserve the Re-Animation Process for the sole benefit of the wealthy and well-connected, to the detriment of those deceased who, but for lack of resources, are condemned to remain dead. I long for a day when all creatures, both the living and the recently living will be one community with no regard for distinctions based on specious criteria such as whether they are animated or re-animated. When a person’s diet, whether human brains or roast beef will be viewed as a personal choice, and equally respected, indeed cherished. When mottled, diseased skin will be seen as beautiful, and decomposition which necessarily occurs in the normal but perilous business of living the life of the Re-Animated is no more important than the color of a person’s eyes. I dream of a day when the Undead can rise from their graves without fear, and walk once again among the living, with pride and as equals.
