This is a type of atmospheric halo, shot during the early afternoon almost directly overhead.

A seastack along the Oregon coast near Bandon with just enough sunset color to resemble a Halo ringing the top of this jagged rock spire on the beach near Face Rock.
I’m really glad I was able to complete this image. It’s one I’ve been working on for quite some time now and almost scrapped it a number of times. I actually made the decision to trash this and I’d begun working on a new piece but I couldn’t move on until this one was finished. So I went back to it and all of a sudden it just started working for me seemingly out of nowhere. It’s ironic that the decision to scrap the work was all I needed to fuse my brain into making it work. art plays little tricks on me sometimes. :)
Image by photographer Glennis Siverson, www.glennisphotos.com. Photo was featured on the RB home page on 6/12/08. “I will not wish thee riches, nor the glow of greatness, but that wherever thou go some weary heart shall gladden at thy smile, or shadowed life know sunshine for a while. And so thy path shall be a track of light, like angels’ footsteps passing through the night.” / Words on a Church Wall in Upwaltham, England (I got this quote from talented RB artist Marny Barnes.)

Angel Spray / How times have changed. Graffiti/street artists are so mainstream now, they have become the angels and darlings of the modern art world. Currently, six internationally acclaimed street artists are being featured at the Tate Modern in London. They have each created a huge piece on the facade of the iconic London modern art gallery. Time heals all wounds. Time flies when you’re having fun. Time stands still. Time waits for no one. If I could turn back the hands of Time. Frozen in Time. Timeless…. you get the idea. Well, I wanted to create a series that perhaps captured the essence of these things, in relation to human emotion. And so my Time series was born. I know in my heart what each of them means, but I did not name them anything specific, so that the viewer could make up their own mind as to the meaning of each piece. I think that is something unique to every individual. So…my heartfelt thanks for continuing to watch and support my artistic endeavors. It feeds the fire that burns and inspires. / Aimee
Taken at Wattamolla Lagoon in Royal National Park just south of Sydney looking north-east. The yellow glow is from the city lights. The sky looked like it was on fire with silver and gold licks of flame. And the moon halo just accentuated the mythic feel to this night sky scape. All gone in a few moments. The clouds were moving fast so I had to shoot at ISO 1600 to get a fast enough shutterspeed to minimise the blur. This is one of my early night moon shots taken with the Canon 30D that I stumbled on looking for something else.
Startrails, plane trails, boat trails, car trails. train trails – yep this one has the lot lol. Stanwell Tops last night from 10pm – 11pm looking south to Wollongong just south of Royal National Park. Worth clicking on large – really get to see the startrails even with the annoying watermark. This is a blend of 117 X 30 second exposures using the superb Schurs Startrails action / Your looking at about an hour’s worth of night sky here. Pretty trippy huh! More startrails on the left courtesy of the Milky Way. And a bit of serendipity which I find happens a lot with night shots is that it is by pure chance that I happened to be pointing straight to the south polar star so got nice concentric circles. Now what is particularly strange about this shot is that main plane trail right through the centre of the shot (pretty annoying but no way to get rid of it). The weird bit is that “ricochet” at the left hand edge of the frame like a comet contrail – any ideas?? It looks like the light hits the edge of the frame and then bounces off but it’s a plane trail – there is no way a plane would veer that sharply. Very odd.
