The Snowy Owl – The Snowy Owl is a large, diurnal white Owl that has a rounded head, yellow eyes and black bill. The feet are heavily feathered. A distinctive white Owl, their overall plumage is variably barred or speckled with thin, black, horizontal bars or spots. Females and juveniles are more heavily marked than males – adult males may be almost pure white, although they have up to three tail bands. Adult females are distinctly barred throughout, and have from four to six tail bands. Immatures are very heavily barred throughout, and dark spotting may codominate or dominate the overall plumage. Snowy Owl calls are varied, but the alarm call is a barking, almost quacking krek-krek-krek-krek; the female also has a softer mewling pyee-pyee-pyee-pyee or “prek-prek-prek”... So unlike the one they use in the Harry Potter films, this Hedwig is actually female. They use male birds to portray her in the film because a bird with an all white plumage looks more impressive they think! bit of unless knowledge for you eh?

A little spicey morsel for the Halloween season… “Día de los Muertos” is Spanish for “The Day of the Dead”. It’s a Mexican holiday that occurs on November 1 (All Saints’ Day) and November 2 (All Souls’ Day). It celebrates and honoris the lives of the deceased, and the continuation of life; the belief is not that death is the end, but rather the beginning of a new stage in life.
I got this shot right before Halloween & edited it in Adobe PS. It has become one of my favorite “fun” captures. I know it is Christmas, but this is just for fun! Thanks for looking!! :)Kristi

A witch travels through the doorway into another realm
Original is Acrylic painting on Canvas. for all hallows eve… The carved pumpkin, lit by a candle inside, is one of Halloween’s most prominent symbols. / These lanterns are usually carved from a turnip or swede (or more uncommonly a mangelwurzel). / The jack-o’-lantern can be traced back to the Irish legend of Stingy Jack, a greedy, gambling, hard-drinking old farmer. / He tricked the devil into climbing a tree and trapped him by carving a cross into the tree trunk. / In revenge, the devil placed a curse on Jack, condemning him to forever wander the earth at night. This story has been passed down through generations of Irish families. / The carving of pumpkins is associated with Halloween in North America, where pumpkins were readily available and much larger, making them easier to carve than turnips. Many families that celebrate Halloween carve a pumpkin into a frightening or comical face and place it on their home’s doorstep after dark. In America the tradition of carving pumpkins is known to have preceded the Great Famine period of Irish immigration. / The tradition of carving vegetable lanterns may have been brought over by the Scottish or English—documentation is unavailable to establish when or by whom. The carved pumpkin was originally associated with harvest time in general in America and did not become specifically associated with Halloween until the mid-to-late 19th century. / -From Wikipedia / Halloween like jack O’ Lanterns but less cheeky? / check out Jacks Hallowe’en fire / also available on tshirts/tops / thankyou for taking the time to view my art and (hopefully) comment… / please have a look at my other artwork… / hope you enjoy! :) Click on any category above for that genre… or / Click here to go back to my profile page ... thanx :)
Featured in Halloween and Inspired Art groups Original is Acrylic on 9×12 canvas board- Inspired by the song ‘A Beautiful Lie’ by 30 Seconds to Mars. I was watching the music video for “A Beautiful Lie” by 30 Seconds to Mars, and was really touched by the intro with the Eskimos. (If you haven’t seen it yet, the link to the video is below) The band is really breaking grounds by putting this environmental awareness stuff out there. (It can make or break your career in the music biz) I also thought that the director/photographer for the video was a genious! It’s such a captivating and stunning video, the shots of the scenery is amazing! So….I downloaded the CD. (It’s one of my faves right now….GREAT music!) Without the video to distract, I listened to the song with my eyes closed, as I knew this one would work for my next painting. (This is kinda part of my process right now. LOL) The little electric sounds at the beginning and end of the song made me feel like I was either falling into space or just into the dark oblivion. Empty, alone, fragile…..that’s where the background came from. IT’s a deep deep blue almost black – I added the parts that kind of spin out from the inner circle to show that things are spinning out of controll and that you’re spiraling down into the depths of something. Once I had the background done, I went back to listening to the song while the paint dried. This time, I saw that poor poor faerie was the one falling into nothing. This is when I decided to keep everything dark – whites blacks and grays – because I knew there would be an explosion of red. The white and gray leaves came next. I felt like the gray wasn’t the right color, but thought it might look better after adding the trunk and branches. So, I went with a solid black for that. I chose the black to keep with the dark theme, but also because it would really stand out in some parts, yet kind of fade into the background in other areas. (A Beautiful Lie – this is a beautiful tree, but is it really there?) This is when I hated it and wanted to trash it and start over! Instead, I stepped away from it for 2 days – came back refreshed and decided to add in the red & silver. I did the silver to throw in a brighter color to balance the piece a bit, but to also show the etherealness of the faerie. The faerie has fallen and was basically held by the tree. Shes fading into the background and there are spots of her silver body throughout the piece. She’s kind of becoming everything around her. I very much believe in reincarnation and life after death. (Which is also why the pose is almost like the crusifix.) It’s kind of a play on organized religion and what we’ve been told about death in general – It’s all a beautiful lie! :) The red was chosen to symbolize blood. This makes the viewer pose some questions – is it all blood? are those blood splatters or wings? are those blood spots or flowers in the tree? All in all, it’s a play on reality – what’s really there? what isn’t? Is it all just a beautiful lie?! “Lie awake in bed at night / And think about your life / Do you want to be different? / Try to let go of the truth / The battles of your youth / ‘Cause this is just a game It’s a beautiful lie / It’s a perfect denial / Such a beautiful lie to believe in / So beautiful, beautiful it makes me…” Full lyrics / A Beautiful Lie Video / 30 Seconds to Mars *This image also goes along with the poem Something Wicked by autumnwind as part of a collaboration for the Halloween Art & Writing Challenge in the Halloween Group *

/ __________________ Fictional traditional painting, 13×18 cm / Acrylics & gouache on black canvas. / Creation Date: 26.03.2009 I did this painting because I actually saw in my dream last night a crow. I took it from some place that I don’t remember. I was holding it with my hands and I do remember perfectly that in a weird moment I turn my head back and the crow was sleeping. It was the most strange thing I ever saw in my life – I remember I was watching the crow sleeping and breathing exactly like it was a human or even closer, I was feeling like I was watching a little puppy breathing. — / / — © All images copyright ROUBLE RUST / Spyridoula Bleta / All the images in this gallery are copyrighted, are NOT part of public domain & may not be reproduced, copied, edited, transmitted, uploaded, downloaded, or published in any way without my permission.
