I’ve been busy this past couple of days, in a good way. We have had loads of lovely visitors, and I was out celebrating my 26th birthday. Yes, you heard right. I’ve been 26 for years, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. So if you check back this time next year you can help me celebrate my 26th birthday. LOL. Anyway, I managed to get in a small bit of creating, and I have been looking over the new works on my watchlist. I am mightily impressed by all of you. Congratulations to all of you whose works have been featured. More comments, and replies, will follow later when I get settled down. I have one more celebration to see to today, i.e. my shopping birthday present to me. But I do not promise to be 100% sober. LOL:))

  • Arabic Salām ( سلام ), Hebrew Shalom ( שלום), Ge’ez śalām (ሠላም), Syriac šlama ( ܫܠܡܐ) are cognate Semitic terms for “PEACE”, deriving from a Proto-Semitic šalām. The word salām is used in a variety of expressions and contexts in Arabic and Islamic speech and writing. Al-Salam is one of the 99 names of God in the Qur’an, and also a male given name in conjunction with abd. Abd Al-Salam translates to Slave of Al-Salaam (i.e. Slave of Allah.) In Hebrew, the equivalent of the word is Shalom. It is also the root word of the names Solomon (Süleyman), Selim, etc. The Koine Greek New Testament text uses eirēnē (εἰρήνη) for ‘peace’, which perhaps represents Jesus saying ‘šlama’; this Greek form became the Western feminine name Irene. In the Epistles, it often occurs alongside the usual Greek greeting chairein (χαίρειν) in the phrase ‘grace and peace’. However, comparison of the Greek Septuagint and Hebrew Masoretic Old Testament texts shows some instances where shalom was translated instead as soteria (σωτηρια, meaning “salvation”). Arabic, Hebrew and Aramaic have cognate expressions meaning “peace be upon you” used as a greeting: – Arabic As-Salamu ʿAlaykum (السلام عليكم), this expression is used to greet others and is an Arabic equivalent of “hello”. The appropriate response to such a greeting is “and upon you be peace” (wa `alaykum as-salām). / – Hebrew שלום עליכם shalom aleichem. / – Neo-Aramaic ܫܠܡܐ ܥܠܘܟ šlama ‘loukh, classically ܫܠܡܐ ܥܠܝܟ, šlāmâ ‘laik.

  • Salam means Peace... Sin-Lam-Mim (Arabic: س ل م S-L-M, or Hebrew: שלם Š-L-M) is the triconsonantal root of many Semitic words, and many of those words are used as names. The root itself translates as “whole, safe, intact”. Islamic rulings related to the use of the greeting: It is preferred to use the greeting when arriving and also when leaving. It was reported that Abu Hurayrah said “When one of you joins a gathering, let him say salaam. When he wants to get up and leave, let him say salaam. The former is not more important than the latter.” (Saheeh – at-Tirmidhi) – According to hadith the Islamic prophet Muhammad was asked who should “begin” the salam greeting, and he said: “The one who is riding should greet the one who is walking, and the one who is walking should greet the one who is sitting, and the smaller group should greet the larger group.” (Saheeh – Al-Bukhaari, 6234; Muslim, 2160) – It is also stated that one should give the Salam greeting upon entering a house, even if the house is empty. This is based upon the verse of the Qur’an: “But when you enter the houses, greet one another with a greeting from Allah (i.e. say: As‑Salaamu ‘Alaykum — peace be on you), blessed and good.” (al-Noor 24:61)

Hi everybody. I took a few days of RB, except to call in and vote in challenges. I’ve started to declutter, which was badly needed. I also wanted to get started on building a website. So, I’m sorry if I haven’t been commenting on your art for the past few days. My loss. To anyone kind enough to comment on my work while I was away, thank you very much. I’ll try and catch up on all this, but forgive me if it’s not possible. All the best, my friends, Agnes x

  • Made for my crazy old grandmas birthday this year. Didn’t want to give her anything ‘scary, dark or tragical’ so I tried to draw something with a purely positive atmosphere. I think I succeeded, although the cat does look a little evil at last… The text below (in dutch) says: ‘The cat who was so elegant that everyone says hello with a smile and forgets his troubles for a moment…’. Fineliner on Hahnemuhle Fineart Quattro paper, 11,8×11,8 inch. 80lbs. 0,05 & 0,3 pencil width.. about 8 by 8 inches in size. 2009.

  • had this idea, can’t remember where now, probably when i was supposed to be doing something really important and my mind just strayed off onto this. I hope you like it anyway.

  • Sweet is one of the five basic tastes and is almost universally regarded as a pleasurable experience. Foods rich in simple carbohydrates such as sugar are those most commonly associated with sweetness, although there are other natural and artificial compounds that are much sweeter, some of which have been used as sugar substitutes for those with a sweet tooth. Other compounds may alter perception of sweetness itself. The chemosensory basis for detecting sweetness, which varies among both individuals and species, has only been teased apart in recent years. The current theoretical model is the multipoint attachment theory, which involves multiple binding sites between sweetness receptor and the sweet substance itself…
