  • I’m trying desperately to overcome my fear of spiders and decided to try to photograph this one. It looked a bit dead actually – impressive legs though!!!

  • This little guy comes to visit on a regulat basis. There is suet outside for them to eat during the winter. They just love suet and I just love their sound and watching them.

Leaves longest near the middle of the plant. Lower leaves deciduous. / Growth Habit: Stiff-hairy, grayish-green, sprawling or ascending perennial herb, mostly 10-60cm tall with several rigid stems from a woody tap root. May form large patches. / Habitat and Range: Dry, open sandy prairie and hillsides often on southern exposures; river terraces; disturbed areas. Widespread in he southern half of Alberta.   • Hairy Willowherb- Epilobium hirsutum Plant: Branched, soft-hairy perennial 50—200cm tall, from spreading rootstock. Leaves: Mostly paired, lance-shaped, sharpley toothed , stalkless. Flowers: rose purple, about 2.5 cm across, with 4 sepals, 8 stamens and a cross-shaped stigma; flowers in spike-like clusters. Blooms: July to September. Fruits: Slender, erect pods, 5-8cm, splitting lengthwise to release tiny seeds with silky white parachutes. Habitat: Moist to wet, often disturbed sites. * This pictue was taken of a plant I found growing near a swampy area in Norwood Ontario Canada.
