Self portrait played with in PSCS2.
I like the tension of this sky but with Daphne’s silhouette it becomes something a little greater, I hope. I can imagine someone standing under such a sky and thinking for a long while as the sun sinks.

These are the coal drops at Wallsend in 1838. In the style of my unknown hero, Thomas Hair, (1810 – 1875) the industrial watercolour painter of that era. Coal is brought on the trains (brand new form of transport then!). And the coal, from the wagons, is literally dropped on to the waiting coal ships (called colliers). Hence the name, ‘Drops’. I have two other drops paintings ‘Benwell’ and the larger drops at the ‘Middlesbrough’ estuary with the North Sea. No trace of any of these structures remain now. As this was before the invention of photography, Thomas Hair’s work is a valuable recording, as well as a creation of beauty! Thomas was buried in an unmarked grave (All Saints church, next to the Tyne Bridge) in Newcastle in 1875. / And his works, forgotten. Watercolour 14”x10” 140lb paper.

One in a series of five art cards that I had created called ‘Funky Hatted Witches’. The originals were for sale and/or sold online at my Etsy and Ebay shops. Original art was created on Fabriano paper using watercolor pencils and Micron ink, in ACEO size of 2.5” x 3.5”. I scanned the art card, added shadowing effects using Photoshop and saved as a greeting card size.
