I was going to work this morning and just had to pull over and capture this scene, hard to do from the side of a freeway shooting in between traffic but worth it I think.
This white flowering Eucalypt caught my eye. It was actually in a carpark and our car was parked under it. I love how my interest in photography invokes me to notice these things that others walk on by. It allows me to see the beauty in the world around me.
Gum tree on a rocky slope in Central Victoria, Australia. Believe it or not, the boulders of this landscape were once hidden beneath lush forest, which was mostly removed in the quest for firewood, and fenceposts, once settlement started to explode—during the Victorian mining boom of the mid-1800s.

The silence of the Australian bush was broken by a harsh crack and then a deafening crash, as this branch, once full of life, growth and vitality gave way to the the effects of the prolonged drought and the ravages of time and weather, and fell to the ground, unseen.

These flowers are on full show around Christmas time – in fact, these particular flowers were the table centre piece for Christmas!
A view of some large trees that have fallen across the pathway to Marriner’s Falls on the Barham River behind Apollo Bay in The Great Otway National Park. Pentax istDS Camera. An HDR image with three exposures bracketed and processed using Dynamic Photo HDR.
A tall, dead, gum tree with a coil of barbed wire left from fencing, leaning against it. I am told that this sparse landscape was once hidden beneath lush forest. It was mostly removed in the quest for firewood, and fenceposts, once settlement started to explode in the region, during the Victorian mining boom of the mid-1800s. This particular tree, I suppose, would have grown and died since that era … It’s hard to believe, really, but on the other hand, near to this tree I saw the remains of a dead tree that had been eaten by termites, not much left .. I can believe that in 150 years the whole mountain could have been denuded by humans and termites. Central Victoria, Australia.
