  • Kosciuszko National Park, 2006

  • Taken on Mt.Higginbotham at Mt.Hotham the cloud had just thinned enough toward the sun enough to allow a soft but distinct shadow to be cast by the snowgum onto the fresh snow. ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature

  • This was taken in late Autumn before the start of the official snow season, looking down the top trail at Mt.Baw Baw. The overhanging snowgums laden with snow, the fog and dropping away of the track gave a feeling of walking through a snowy tunnel. ~ / Browse Images by Category : Snow Landscape Nature

  • Taken at the Murray River early morning. / Original image on Fuji 100 colour slide taken with a Minolta 700 and 24mm lens

  • Snow Gum bark, Bogong High Plains, Alpine NP, Victoria, Australia. / © Ern Mainka

  • Three seperate canvases combine to create Scribbly Gum Tryptch / Oil on scretched Canvas. / 3 x (34cm x 120cm) Original available $AU3,000 – Postage extra Exhibited at Campelltown Regional Art Gallery Centre Layers of subtle glazes were used trying to create a flowing natural backgroud to this magnificent variety of gum trees. The texture of the knots were equally important. Leaving the looseness of the larval tracks to the last. This work was created to support an upcoming exhibition by the Southern Printmakers Association entitled ‘Earthwritings’.

  • Pastel on sanded paper (burgundy Colourfix) 70cm x 50cm This is a pastel painting. I was intrigued with the way the light was glinting on the raindrops on these eucalyptus leaves after a brief shower (which really did nothing to relieve the drought)!!!! • The mist around the trees was so beautiful yesterday morning, and everything felt so peaceful, I couldn’t resist a couple of textures and overlays to help create the feeling. Original photograph with grunge texture overlay, colour and levels adjustments. Featured in Red Bubble Home Page, April 2009

  • Backwaters of the River Murray at Lyrup near sunset, late afternoon. Majestic old dead gums still standing out against the skyline. These flats are situated near Lyrup in the Riverland area of South Australia between Berri and Renmark. A great place for sunrise or sunset. Three shot stitch in Photoshop CS3. Canon 400D 18-55 lens with Polarising filter.

  • Pastel on Colourfix paper – 70cm x 50cm I finished this painting late last year, and thought it was an appropriate RedBubble ‘upload’ given the events of the past week in Australia. It is symbolic of the Aussie spirit and the knowledge that the bush, and the people who dwell in the beauty of the Australian bush, will regenerate! I have entered this painting in a few art shows since I finished it last November, and it has won me four awards! The next art show I have entered it in is at Kilmore, which is a bit spooky, because that is where the intial fire that demolished Kinglake, Flowerdale and the Marysville area commenced. Many Australian eucalypts are dependent on fire to regenerate. This painting depicts the leaves and their ‘gumnut’ seeds from the ‘Ironbark’ species of eucalypt which are prolific on the 40 acre property where I live. The People’s Choice – Ruffy Art Show – Nov. 2008 / The Viewer’s Choice – Art by the Lake at Nagambie – Dec 2008 / The People’s Choice – Strathbogie Art Show – Jan 2009 / Highly Commended – Kilmore Art Expo – March 2009 / Placed in the Top 10 of the Painters in Modern Times ‘Green’ Challenge – May 2009 / Featured in the Painter’s in Modern Times group – May 2009 / Featured in The Best of – August 2009 SOLD from the Old Courthouse Gallery, Seymour – July 2009 It is now August, so quite awhile since I uploaded this image. I received a call yesterday from the person who bought it. They explained that when they saw it in a local gallery they just HAD to have it because it reminded them of how the bush was before the fires, and gave them hope that it will ‘regenerate’ again. On further conversation I discovered that the buyer was from Kinglake, and she had sat in her dam on February 7th and watched her home and everything she owned go up in smoke!!!! She is rebuilding, and has a special spot in her new home for this painting.

  • Night time shot, taken in the backwaters of the River Murray, near Lyrup in the Riverland area of South Australia. Beautiful still night with mirror image reflections of the majestic dead river gums. BEST Viewed large. Canon 400D 18-55 lens. Processed in Photoshop CS3.

  • Late afternoon, Lyrup flats between Renmark and Berri in the Riverland of South Australia. Afternoon shots whilst waiting for the sun to go down for a night time shoot. The clouds moved apart and left this diamond like section reflecting nicely on the still backwaters. Again a visit to one of my favourite places where these huge River gums stand defiant against nature, dead but not finished….... Canon 400D 18-55 lens, CIR Polarising filter. Three shot panoramic stitch in CS3 and converted to B&W in the same program.
