Hi there. My name is David and I’m a kit-a-holic. It started out with the basic stuff. My trusty Konica Minolta. But the zoom was just to powerful and pretty quickly I wanted more. I remember my first tripod. God, that felt so good. I managed to find some basic post-processing software. You know, the kind of stuff you get for free from Google. But it didn’t last. / / Next thing I know I was buying software – I wasn’t ready for Photoshop then, and I couldn’t afford it, so I went for the cheap stuff… Microsoft. Toxic stuff, but enough to open up a whole new world for me. Suddenly, anything was possible. I joined Flickr. That became an addiction in itself. I felt normal for a while, but soon I needed more and then Craig Shillington introduced me to Red Bubble. Now I’m doing both. And I can’t keep off the web. I keep going to dpreview looking for the latest reviews. Still looking at bridge cameras – I daren’t try an SLR, not with all those oh-so-tempting lenses. But there’s so many out there – the Fujis, the Canons, the Sonys all shiny and seductive. I want them all. And I’ll do anything to get one. I’ve just entered the Red Bubble Photo Competition to try and win the Canon 400D. God help me if I actually succeed. Right now, I’m desperate for a monopod. I took the camera to the cricket the other day and all I could see was the professional journos with their fancy cameras and laptops. But there is hope and you can help. I am involved in a Music Therapy programme which aims to set people free from their addiction to photography. Ten percent of all sales on this site will go towards much needed equipment for my guitar. Eventually, I’ll have enough for this Digitech multi-effects box I’ve got my eye on, and then there’s this software package I’ll be needing, and that new capo…

what is it about the blues that lifts my spirits? last night i was at the first annual adelaide guitar festival in elder park and, i tell you, i went there feeling down and, well, blue. but listening to slide guitar for two and a half hours under the stars and men wailing about women leaving them and running out of booze and their dogs running off on them and being dragged behind trucks by wild horses high on crack cocaine and the like, suddenly my life didn’t seem so bad after all. the best music’s got melancholy i say. bob brozman’s animated performance even managed to put a smile on my face. aint that something. onya bob. ah blues, you’ve done it again.

Hey Everyone, I haven’t yet written a journal entry yet, mainly because I’m lazy and also because Lorie has been doing such a good job of it. But maybe it’s time to step forward a bit and let you in on a bit more about me. Many of you have left great comments about my cartooning and artwork, which is very encouraging indeed. Sometimes when inspiration is low, getting some supportive feedback can light the fire under by butt to work again. I know Lorie appreciates it massively as well. Basically my style is the sum of my influences, mostly from underground greats like Vaughn Bode and Robert Crumb. I also love silent animation of the twenties and look to early horror films for inspiration also. And speaking of horror, my 9 year old daughter Eve has been giving us some great ideas for horror and zombie based designs lately. Rarely have I ever been so proud in my time as a parent. The main thing in my life is music. I’ve been obsessed with it for a damn long time now, and it just gets more intense the older I get. When I’m not drawing, I play guitar, write music reviews, download old, rare albums and upload my writing to music sites like Rate Your Music. Here’s the link should you wanna check out my page. My activity in it is intense enough that Eve can identify different strains of heavy metal, just from her own listening experience. She doesn’t particularly like it, but she knows what it is, and that’s a start. I’m also interested in religion and history, especially when they include the more morbid periods in history. Where there’s torture, heresy, disease and blasphemy, you’ll find me as well. At least figuratively speaking. So there you go, my first entry! Any thoughts, comments or rotten tomatoes are welcome and encouraged, so let ‘em fly! Peace, Mike
