Assiniboine Park in Winnipeg has an amazing amount of wildlife. / For an urban park I have seen deer, a wide assortment of birds, lots of rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, and turtles. Until this day I had never seen a Guinea Pig in the Wild. / Since Guinea Pigs are native to the Andes in South America this little guy must be running free from somewhere.
This is one of my moms guinea hens….probably the most obnoxious bird ever, but this photo pretty much explains it all

The Palm Cockatoo (Probosciger aterrimus) is a large black Cockatoo. They inhabit the tip of Cape York (Australia), Papua New Guinea and Aru Island. Their large crest, facial patch, large bill and range of calls make them quite distinctive. The large beak is used to crack open seed pods, seed and fruits as well as to help create a layer of splinters in the nest. The facial patch and crest are used to display the birds mood e.g the facial patch may go bright red when the bird is excited or aroused. This bird was photographed at Adelaide Zoo in South Australia.

Albino Northern Territory Carpet Python (Morelia spilota variegata) or Darwin Carpet Python are native to Australia and New Guinea. The unusual appearance of this albino snake is caused by genetic faults in the metabolic system that produces melanin. This individual is an oculocutaneous albino, which means that it contains no melanin in the eyes or skin. / ©2008 Shannon Plummer. Washday in the city of Conakry, Republic of Guinea. / Photographed with Canon Digital Rebel EOS300, 35 Canon Lens Wayne D. King’s images are a celebration of life, blending the real and the surreal to achieve a sense of place or time that reaches beyond the moment into a dreamlike quintessentialism designed to spark an emotional response. Using digital enhancement, handcrafting, painting, and sometimes even straight photography, King seeks to take the viewer to a place that is beyond simple truth to where truth meets passion, hope and dreams. © Wayne D. The guinea pig (also commonly called the Cavy after its scientific name, Cavia porcellus) is a species of rodent belonging to the family Caviidae and the genus Cavia. Despite their common name, these animals are not pigs, nor do they come from Guinea. They originated in the Andes, and studies based on biochemistry and hybridization suggest they are domesticated descendants of a closely related species of cavy such as Cavia aperea, C. fulgida or C. tschudii, and therefore do not exist naturally in the wild. The guinea pig plays an important role in the folk culture of many Indigenous South American groups, especially as a food source, but also in folk medicine and in community religious ceremonies. Since the 1960s, efforts have been made to increase consumption of the animal outside South America.
