Chaos Follows This handsome fellow is the leader of the Chaos Guggen Band, from Plochingen in Germany, pictured here at BIGF 2008 (Britain’s International Guggenmusik Festival) in Wareham, Dorset. The Guggenmusik (or happy music) genre is a big-band, carnival style of popular music, lots of brass and percussion instruments. The bands dress in colourful costumes and are sometimes masked. Guggenmusik is very popular in Switzerland and Germany, but there are only two bands in the UK, one from Yorkshire and Bournemouth’s finest Gugge 2000 band, hosts of the BIGF event. Frumptarn Guggen Band These colourful characters are the Frumptarn Guggen Band, so called because they are “Frumptarn” of Barnsley in Yorkshire.
