A British Railways Train Guard with his pipe, looking out of the Guard’s Van window. Taken in September 1972 on good ol’ FP4 film, with unfortunately, a number of “old film” artifacts still evident in the picture in spite of many hours of careful recovery in Photoshop! (This explains why I’ve limited the choice of medium to cards and canvas.) After some additional research by my son, I’m now sure that the railway station is Crewe Station (Lancashire), and that the train is one belonging to London Midland Scottish (LMS), not London Midland Region (LMR). Here’s a close-up of the Guardsman’s badge (or ‘button’), which (provided that it isn’t just a blood-donor’s badge or similar!) might help some UK railway enthusiast discover a bit more about this chap, and the railway network that he worked on. / / This is a 100% crop from the film-scan, with some minor contrast adjustments and with no digital noise reduction. / .
He goes by the name Pea.
... / Yes, the light is natural – fogginess creeping between the trees, has a bluish tinge. Interestingly I did not notice the hue till the shot was uploaded. / . /
I decided to change the design because I felt the original did not tell enough of a story.. The Story… In our modern fast paced world, we need to do all we can to attract “shoppers” into our stalls. Countries are no different I guess. So sometimes tradition and decorum must be sacrificed to the advertising Gods. Sergeant UgeLipz, of the Queens Guards unwrapped his favourite Cuban Cigar, and, in front of the Palace, did the unthinkable and called the world to London. :) I really am anti-smoking, but the image appealed to me too much, so I had to do it. :)

Lighthouse at day’s end on Lake Michigan. Shot in Ludington, Michigan.
a male eastern bluebird helps in the feeding of his youngsters, as he returns to the birdhouse with some juicy grubs. the bluebirds, more often than not, will stop on this branch before going into the birdhouse. actually, I nailed that branch on the back of the birdhouse, and the bluebirds love it! a brick house with a white fence accounts for the lovely colors in the background. / camera Olympus E-3 / lens Sigma 50-500mm f/4.0 / aperatur priority / f-stop f/8.0 / shutter speed 1/320 sec / ISO 400 / focal length 500mm / tripod/cable release used

Sailor by Cheyenne The Lighthouse: / Old and Beautiful, Tall and Bright as it guides my Sailor home in the night. / Dark and Stormy sea, / the Hurricane tosses, his Boat rocks, / water breaches it’s Deck. / My Sailor’s in trouble, / His Ship as it begins to sink. / All hope is lost, until.... / Until He sees Me, / My shadow cast out on the Stormy sea, / casting out miles away, / the powerful light within the Lighthouse, / guides my Sailor home again. / Safe and Sound, my True Love is found. / The Lighthouse stands Tall and True, perched on top a cliff, / Old and Beautiful. / A symbol of Our strong Love. / Faithful We are to It. / It’s faithfulness is forever to our Gratitude. I made my way to view the sunset as usual at La Corbiere Light House, in Jersey, CI. There was a storm just making it’s way in towards land and there were these very dramatic clouds that hovered over the light house. The clouds didn’t stop the sunset however, which gave this amazing colour and texture to the sea. I couldn’t believe my good fortune. I have taken many shots of this light house but never caught such amazing colour as this before. Hope you enjoy it as well. The poem was above was written by a friend here on Redbubble, Cheyenne. please do check out her profile.

Third United States Infantry, The “Old Guard,” one of the oldest and most respected Infantry Regiments in the United Stated. Since April 6, 1948 the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier has been guarded 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, regardless of weather. The sentinel marches 21 steps across the black mat, past the final resting places of the Unknown Soldiers of World War I, World War II, Korea, and the crypt of the Unknown Soldier of the Vietnam War. With a crisp turn, the sentinel turns 90 degrees to face east for 21 seconds. The sentinel then turns a sharp 90 degrees again to face north for 21 seconds. A crisp “shoulder-arms” movement places the rifle on the shoulder nearest the visitors to signify that the sentinel stands between the tomb and any threat. After the moment, the sentinel paces 21 steps north, turns and repeats the process. Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia / canon 40 D /
