Part of my private collection (the original is not for sale) and painted with Guache in 1998 on illustration board. While the title is a little tongue in cheek (can’t say I ever had quite that figure) it’s a self portrait for many reasons. For a start it’s meant to symbolise those moments when you are feeling capable, in charge, have lots of things you love around you – basically when all is good – but for some reason you still feel alone or cut off from everything or everyone around you. Hence the pinacle that’s too high to easily climb, the space and general nothingness around the figure and the small amount of land to stand on without much room to move. One the other hand the space is filled with stars and a moon, there is a flame of energy / power all around the figure and even the pinnacle has flowers on the way up and dense grass at the top. Surrounding the figures are things that are personal to me – a flower growing as a treble clef representing music, a cookie monster hand puppet signifying the child like part of me that still likes to play and have fun (and loves all things muppets!) and a little tiny tunnel with a ladder that shows parts of me that even I don’t know about yet. All too deep? Just think of it as a pretty girl standing on a pinnacle in space!
