Aerial view of the first growth of spring and a tree lined creek, being slowly released from a frosts cold grip.
Stumbled across a great display of daffs today, on my way to visit a gallery in Scottsdale, NE Tas, which has been hosting some of my works. Couldn’t drive past without taking some photos! Looks stunning as a card… or a framed print…just in case you were wondering ;)
I find this simple image reminds me of shoots or bulbs of a plant dividing off from the parent organism. It is another fractal, derived from an algorithm I found when I made a programming error :) One of the reasons I write my own software instead of one of the very powerful and nicely designed fractal programs out there, it’s easier to make mistakes and sometimes I like the mistakes better than the intended result.
Another tree like fractal, I have a lot of these :) Two versions, same fractal different colouring.

Teensy’s been sitting in a rosebush all morning after passing finals with flying colors, jetting from the nest, and joining the big wide world. I couldn’t resist taking Teensy’s formal graduation portrait.
This little vine is growing in our yard, heading ever so surely towards the sunlight. Its progression has us all amazed, so fragile but so determined. For the technically curious shooting info as follows. / Canon 1D mk2 with lensbaby, 1300/ second @f2, iso 100.

It’s just my mood for the day. It’s going to be an interesting four years here in the US. Plus, I’ve gone back to my fractal basics. Done in Fractal Domains software.

East opens the day at dawn, / Releasing the Sun / From night’s ebony box. / The mind awakes / with childlike delight. / Spring fills the breeze / with sweet flowers and the / shimmery sound of bells. / Here the birds unfurl their wings / and all the world takes flight. Elizabeth Barrette Ostara brings an optimistic energy as we celebrate the beginning of Spring and a turning point as the Northern Hemisphere once again tilts back towards the Sun. Until this tilt takes place, now is the time of balance – equal day and night – yet also a time of anticipation, as from this night forward, the light once again conquers the darkness. Watercolor and pencil on illustration board, / 10×8 / 2009 Model: Adhara Batul One of the Greek myths I adore the most, for its incredible strength, poetry and significance, is the myth of Persephone. In Greek mythology, Persephone was the goddess of the underworld and of the Spring growth. Daughter of Demeter, goddess of the harvest, she was abducted by Hades and taken to the land of the dead. By a determination of the Fates, she was forced to stay for two seasons each year after eating pomegranates seeds, thus becoming consort of Hades and queen of the underworld. This time I opted by depicting her sorrow and solitude after having the seeds, although there’s quite an air of resignation with her destiny.
it’s nearly spring, here… / 15 august 2009.
