  • This is a picture from my day job. The red balls are grass pollen, and the tubes from them are growing down into the flower to fertilise the ovary. To get ready for the photo took some serious effort to get the timing right, then use of chemicals to stain the pollen red, then actually get to the microscope to take the photo. After reading in the forums about the paths people have taken to become artists, and thinking of my desire to be one (as in, to be able to spend all my time on creative pursuits), I began to think about what skills I have already from my current path. My challenge was to find a creative application of those skills, because I’m not in a position to give up work. Yet :) I’ve been using photography to record my work for many years, so that was the first and most obvious answer. I just thought I’d throw that up for interest, as it’s not the sort of thing that you would want framed in your living room I’m sure LOL!

Round and round… From the cells of this seed head, shall fall the next sacred water lily seeds that will sink into the muck far below and struggle to grow until they return to the light. ~~~~~~~~~~~ This image was FEATURED in group” The Fine Art of Photography” during the month of July to August 2008. / ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Image has been viewed 350+ times. • Watercolor and pencil on illustration board, / 10×8 / 2009 Model: Adhara Batul One of the Greek myths I adore the most, for its incredible strength, poetry and significance, is the myth of Persephone. In Greek mythology, Persephone was the goddess of the underworld and of the Spring growth. Daughter of Demeter, goddess of the harvest, she was abducted by Hades and taken to the land of the dead. By a determination of the Fates, she was forced to stay for two seasons each year after eating pomegranates seeds, thus becoming consort of Hades and queen of the underworld. This time I opted by depicting her sorrow and solitude after having the seeds, although there’s quite an air of resignation with her destiny.

  • tears are strange things. / if you’re anything like me you can find yourself crying at the strangest moments.. like on deal or no deal (embarrassing i know!) / but it did make me think – tears are also an expression of beauty and happiness. sometimes they don’t make sense, though tears, good and bad, help you grow. thats why the eyes are flowers

  • Plants screaming.. water me.. much to do. But last night..hummm in a land land far away.. I went ship building / . / I found a bay that is full of life / hinting at growth / I found a dock that houses a boat my size / (omg.. fantazimal dimensions) / it’s called a slip / and that’s just what I did / slipped right in, / and so the contract said / expansion expected / nothing stays the same / get ready to move round the bay / seaworthy you will become / besides movement is / good for the hull / holding my heart / and my lungs / where I breath in deep / and smell salt scents / I lick those whenever possible. / However… / I am still trying to pack light / as I would like racing as an option / just in case / passion expands too / then I shall head for the sea / and allow my sails to set a course once again into the unknown.
