The amount of comments on her capture clearly indicates that not / many people understands how difficult is to capture this animal / in the REAL WILDERNESS…the european squirrel is quite / used to people and sometime will even accept food handed / to them…..not these ones! anti gravity / denis darzacq and “I throw myself at men” / lilly mcelroy god, this is so inspiring. I wish I d done it myself-it’s not like the thought hadn’t crossed my mind-but the last time I took a photo in a supermarket was 1994… (and they were great! I don’t know if my sister would still still two humungous balls of wool up her top and pretend to dance with them, but I have evidence on film that she once did!) plus, someone who must’ve read my mind as a kid. I was an architect in year 3 and designed houses like this! (of course, much planning, didn’t decide to be one officially in adulthood/do all the study) I went further-the water feature out front came inside and in places there was like glass over the top you could walk on and see them below. Plus a sunken lounge area with a pond feature! here are the designs some made for real

Update – Tomorrow is MONDAY… ;-) Note: This is not a swan song! It’s just a temp break to try and get some Art and writing created again… I’m going away for a while to find a place with zero impact, pressure, force or gravity, kind of like: THIS and THIS I need to centre myself again so I can stop running away from myself, projecting myself at people who don’t deserve it, and write something a bit softer again like: THIS I’m sick of politics and I’m too ignorant and dumb-assed to argue or debate religion, all it does is get me fired up and defensive… And I don’t want to read about kiddie porn, any more, it just brings back bad memories… I want to float out in Space somewhere and create my Art and shit again… So until later… Take care and peace. Oh… And if I’ve said anything at all to fuck you off… I’m kind of sorry / and I’m kind of not… you have a Choice… Converse or Disperse. ;-) xox

I have set upon a project that I want to complete by the next 2 months that is around some photos I have worked on previously. I am interested if there are any people wanting to be part of it as models as I would like to have different people in each of the remaining shots. The main requirement is being in Melbourne, and I am looking to use either male of female models. As well as this minor additional requirements depend on the intended shot. (There are roles outside of being the angels themselves) The current 4 images of the series are: Make Believe Vigil Seated / Fallen / Cocoon# / # If you are interested please bmail me or comment below.

At the moment, I’m having to be strong for a number of reasons and so today I needed to find something that would help me through. I knew exactly where to look for it and it worked yet again. I’m writing it in here just in case anyone else needs a little bit of extra strength just now…When we resolve to lift our life to its highest level, the strength of our soul guides us. It’s up to each of us to develop the courage to walk this way…and here’s the story I read again today…from ‘The Monk who sold his Ferrari by Robin Sharma” Once, in ancient India, there was an evil giant who owned a magnificent castle overlooking the sea. As the giant had been away for many years, fighting in wars, the children of the nearby village used to come into the giant’s beautiful garden and play with great delight. One day, the giant returned and threw all of the children out of his garden. He then erected a huge marble wall around the garden to keep the children out. / Winter came with bitter cold and the giant wished the warmth would soon return. Spring visited the village that lay below the giant’s castle, but the icy claws of winter refused to leave his garden. Then, one day, the giant finally smelled the fragrances of spring and felt the radiance of the sun through his windows. He ran into his garden. The children of the village had somehow managed to climb over the castle wall and were playing in the garden. It was because of their presence that the garden had been transformed from a wintry wasteland into a lush place filled with roses, daffodils and orchids. All the children laughed and giggled but one. The giant spotted a little boy who was much smaller than all the other children. Tears ran from his eyes as he didn’t have the strength to climb the wall into the garden. Suddenly the giant regretted his evil ways and ran towards the little boy to help him. The other children fled fearing for their lives but the tiny little boy stood his ground. ‘I will slay the giant’ he stammered. ‘I will defend our playground.’ / As the giant approached the child, he opened his arms. ‘I am a friend’ he said. ‘I have come to help you over the wall and into the garden. This will be your garden now.’ / The little boy was happy and was now a hero to the other children. He gave the giant his gold necklace and said ‘This is my lucky charm. I want you to have it.’ / From that day on the children played with the giant in his wonderful garden. But the brave little boy whom the giant loved the most didn’t return. As time went on the giant gre ill and frail. In those days it was the little boy who the giant thought of the most. / One day in the middle of a bitter winter, the giant saw a miraculous sight. Though most of the garden was covered in snow, at the centre stood a magnificent rosebush overflowing with spectacularly coloured flowers. Next to the roses stood the little boy who the giant loved. The boy was smiling sweetly. The giant danced with delight and rushed outside to embrace the child. ‘Where have you been all these years, my young friend? I’ve missed you with all my heart’ / The boy was thoughtful in his response ‘Many years ago you lifted me over the wall into your magical garden. Now, I have come to take you into mine.’ / Later that day, when the children came to visit the giant they found him lying lifeless on the ground. From head to toe, he was covered by a thousand beautiful roses…. Always be brave like the little boy. Stand your ground and follow your dreams. They will lead you to your destiny. Follow your destiny, it will lead you into the wonders of the universe. And always follow the wonders of the universe, for they will lead you to a special garden filled with roses.

WOW, thanks to the hosts of Bits & Pieces for featuring my writing on Ground Zero – Remembering 9/11. That was such a dreadful day, and my being able to put feelings down on paper helped me purge some negative emotions from my heart. Not only do I come from a military family, have been a government employee, and married to a Fire Department Battalion Chief, but my heart goes out to all those individuals still suffering from the injuries and losses they are dealing with day-to-day. It is my hope and prayer that our world can overcome this memory of destruction and human degradation by searching for peaceful ways to coexist and learn to appreciate every individual on earth. Thanks again Bits & Pieces!

“Pain is a universal language--and knows no country boundaries-and is not limited by any seas.” I just sent the above words to the other side of the earth, to comfort a fellow RB artist. WE all share in these common grounds of the human experience--but as artists—we share it on a far deeper level. We Artists and Photographers are the EYES of earth / We Poets are the LIPS of the earth / We Singers are the MELODY of the earth / We carry this Burden--and we share this Joy / This magical place of a most peculiar name, called Redbubble is our world of common ground which surpasses the limits of all bodies of raging seas / All Violence of any city streets / All variations of pigmentations / All missiles and tracing bullets of torn flesh / All liars and cheats and thieves / Here-we do provide mankind—with shelter from / the looming storms of the human soul We are mirrors of the most honest reflections / We are healers of the broken wings / We are courage to the downcast faces / We are arms of warmth for those who are alone / We are that warm blanket to shield the chilling winds of forsaken / We are the lighthouse to warn off the points of jagged stones We are Redbubble! by Anne van Alkemade / A friend of mine recently returned from the affected areas of the Victorian Bushfires after four days of helping at relief centres in Yarra Glen and Kinglake. She and a work colleague were given special leave to head down there to help and some of the stories she has brought back are both devastating and also proof of the resilience of the human spirit. There were also some bits and pieces that have you shaking your head in wonder at the stupidity of people, but the positive ones and the sad ones I’d like to share with you here if I may. One thing that hit Sarah straight away, the most significant thing, was that victims young and old were at the mercy of strangers and that they had lost ALL privacy. This may not seem like a big thing to you and I. Most of us probably haven’t experienced this before and so it’s easy to take it for granted. Sarah walked into a relief centre and all along one side were people, counsellors and professionals in suits sitting at tables; on the other side were stores of donated goods; and in the middle were mattresses on the floor for people to sleep on. There were no petitions or curtains, no barriers, nothing to give people a place to rest and grieve in private. My friend and her colleague immediately went to work to provide some sort of barrier around these ‘sleeping quarters’ with cots and other items to at least give people some sense of privacy, a space they could call their own. Poignant, sad and surprising to me were some of the stories about people being helped with goods. The suit / Sarah told me about a man who was looking at suits. He kept going back to the same one, pulling it out from the rack, shaking his head and putting it back. So she went over and asked him if he needed help. Sarah said you could not mistake his actions as someone being picky, just from the shock on his face, and he broke down in tears. “This suit isn’t right. I need a suit for my friend’s funeral”. She gave him comfort, then left him to grief in private; although later finding a pair of new shoes that were right for him. Shoes / Another shoe story. A middle aged woman was sitting admiring a pair of sparkling evening high heels on her feet. (Who would donate such an item in these circumstances, you may think?). Sarah suggested something more practical and the response she got surprised her but it was perfectly understandable. “I used to have a lot of shoes, lovely shoes. They’re all gone now. Please can I have these. Please. I don’t care if I have to walk through rubble, I really want these shoes.” Of course she could have them! They gave the woman with some semblance of normality. That special cup of tea / A local cafe was aware that one of their regular, elderly customers had not been sighted for several days. They were unsure if she was okay, but sought out her special brand of tea and took it to her neighbourhood. Her house was still standing and they knocked on her door. She was relatively okay and in reasonable spirits, delighted to receive the gift. What is particularly significant here though is that she had been isolated in her home and had not seen anyone for many days. All around her was ash and debris AND three car loads of burnt out cars filled with people in her front yard. This poor woman was sheltering in her home with deceased victims very near her front door. How can you comprehend this? Anyone left for tennis? / A man came into the relief centre and asked for a tshirt so he could play tennis on Saturday morning. This request was somewhat surprising but it was explained to my friend that the local tennis courts and clubhouse had remarkably been untouched by the fires. Who could play tennis at a time like this? But the man explained that they played every Saturday. Half the club members had perished in the fires but the survivors needed to play on Saturday. Perhaps to honour their memory, but certainly it was something they did every weekend and again it is people seeking something normal in their very abnormal lives. They were all fitted out with complete outfits and brand new tennis shoes. The unadmirable aspect of human nature / Many people came to the relief centre where my friend was helping even though it was not the main area at Whittlesea. The reason – there was not much in the way of media hanging around. Okay, they have a job to do, but having cameras stuck in the faces of people in desperate times is not helping anyone. Need to know? Hmmm. My friend said at one stage two people were ejected from the relief centre. They had entered the centre carrying bags with holes cut out of the sides for the lenses of their cameras. I wonder why the journalist code of ethics no longer applies? Sarah also said there was a group of people hovering around the front door peering in. She asked them if they were local residents needing help. “Nope. We’re good. We just wanted to have a look around.” They were given short shrift … and promptly sent on their way. And finally – I am always stunned when I hear that in these circumstances the selfishness of people can possibly emerge. All relief workers are on the alert for looters. There have been incidences of people not from fire affected areas visiting these centres looking for handouts. Can you believe that? But for those working with people who are the real ones in need, it is not hard to spot the charlatans! On a positive note / So many people have lost loved ones, lost everything they ever owned, lost their jobs and schools – and are well and truly entitled to money, goods and all on offer to help them get their lives back together again. But so many people who are given things have either given them back or passed them on to people they feel are in greater need. “Thank you, but I don’t need this. I want someone who truly needs it to have it,” is not an uncommon thing for relief workers to hear. And finally / Sarah said that even though she wanted to cry at so many of the things she saw, and the suffering that people are enduring, she knew that “this is not about me. I had to be strong, because most of all that’s what these people need; someone to be there for them.” She said she believes this is a common credo of all people working together in eastern and northern Victoria and the spirit of everyone working together to the common good was inspiring and heartening. The Aussie spirit of a fair go is well and truly alive in the areas devastated by the Black Saturday Bushfires.

The moment of terror while the printer grabbed the aluminum foil was well worth the results! I’m waiting for the ink to dry before I attempt to scan it, this is a photograph of the end result / The Original Image / The Process: / I started using Golden Digital Ground in Matt and while excited by the possibilities was a little disappointed by the thick white texture. It really is best just for supporting other white papers to take ink. I did like the effect it left on newspaper when I left a margin. / Step two was the Gloss digital Ground for porous surfaces. / / / My important discover here was that the paper MUST be flat as possible. The printer makes unhappy sounds unless you have a lot of clearance under the print head. Oh and don’t put paper in the oven to dry on the racks unless they are clean… mysterious orange stains on one batch of paper :( Today I was feeling brave, and a little reckless. I purchased the Digital Ground for non-porous surfaces. More Mixed Media on the Golden webpage explained the process for using aluminium foil. Tape it down with masking tape to a carrier sheet and apply two coats with a foam brush. I’ve also got some acetate to try out as well. I have a Canon IP4600 and the feed seems to be the only issue. It grabs the paper in the middle and if the foil isn’t taped down tight it will bunch up. It also runs lines down the page – however I think it adds to the picture! No surface is safe from my quest to print on anything I can!

So this is the journal I attempted to write earlier under the Happy Solstice title! I did of course want to wish you all a happy Solstice. I have felt many wonderful gifts come my way today and I am feeling very grateful! / Firstly, I wanted to show off my Original Lynnette Shelley piece that I just framed up. Lynnette and I did a trade which I am always a big promoter of. For one thing, as artists we all love original art, but if you are like me you get tired of looking at your own stuff. It is so nice to have someone else’s work on my walls. Here is her work on my dining room wall: / / Another wonderful thing going on for me right now is my reception over at the “Host Hullaballoo” happening in Solo Exhibition right now. I will have 12 of my works featured on January 29th, but for now you can stop by and say hello at my reception. I have already received some wonderful supportive comments and I am again very grateful! / Lastly, I just found out today that I will be in a group show starting on January 9th at a local coffee shop called Common Grounds. So far, I have been a little shy about showing my work locally. I feel this is my first baby step to breaking out in the local scene and I am very excited and ready to do it! / So again, thankyou to all of you that responded to my last journal, don’t know what happened there (and hope it doesn’t happen with this one too :).
