Woman Waking in Wilderness
by nancyamesI know you can see a piece of it. It’s not moving now but you can hear it breathing.
The location is remote and a young mother is waking up, feeling surrounded by danger.

Probably the most expressive piece I’ve ever done. The concept dealt with fear and revulsion at necessitation of child birth and conception and the social pressure to fill that role.

I caught my little red-headed friend getting creative here. Instead of pocking hundreds of holes and maybe finding a worm or two, why not just lift up the bark and grab what you want? Saves wear and tear on the beak too. I know it’s hard to see without looking at the full-size image, but he did get a few worms and has a small one sticking out of his beak in the second photo. Taken in the north Georgia mountains, USA.
