Led by Hans, the big cheese, the Grocery Gang were out for adventure. Stuck too long on shelves they escaped the supermarket. Upon finding an old abandoned kitchen they entered…and never left.

The old Turnbo’s Grocery store, located on 5 highway in Three Brother’s, rural Baxter county Arkansas. The township is called Three Brothers because there are three, close hilltops nearby. These hilltops are often called “knobs” in the Ozarks.
This photograph of the SeaView Cafe in Hope , Alaska was taken in 1986 using a Mamiya Universal medium format film camera. It has been re-touched and altered somewhat to salvage a faded and rather grainy color negative.
On the NSW South Coast is a gorgeous little village called Central Tilba. / Tilba is a heritage listed village full of quaint little galleries & craft shops. / The Grocery Store (which sells divine home-made fudge) has a bicycle hanging above the front door. I thought this an odd place to hang such a thing, but I also found it something that I couldn’t resist…...

Stater Bros. (short for Brothers) was started August, 1936 by twin brothers Cleo and Leo Staters in Yucaipa, California. / By the 1940’s the brother’s were joined by younger brother Lavoy and expanded the chain to 12 locations and 225 employees. / During the 1950’s Stater bros. markets had almost doubled to include 23 locations in San Bernardino, Riverside and Los Angeles counties. By late 1968 the brothers expanded to Orange county and had 35 locations. In 1979, scanning was introduced in the stores and during this time the number of locations yet again doubled. / The year of 1980 was the largest calendar year of growth with 10 new stores opening and a new President and Cheif Officer, Jack Brown. 1982 marked the first series of television advertising which sky-rocketed the sales volume!! / Today Stater Bros. Markets are the largest employers in the Inland Empire. They now have 165 stores and the remodeling continues!! Note; They pride themselves on being “The Low Price Leader,” and I truly believe that they indeed are! /

This is the last of my Tilba Grocery Store series. ( until my next visit!) / This one is pretty self explanatory really. I’d say the sign has been hanging outside the store for quite a time. Lovely paint starting to peel….. rusting….. I loved the simplicity of it! Featured in Rustic Group January 2009 / Top Ten Finalist – Vintage Signs challenge – March 2009
