Rapunzel Rapunzel, let down your hair. :) A modern look at the faerie tale.
Yay!
Another misty morning shot taken in a London Cemetery
My work was the WINNER of the Faerie World groups competition , “The Brothers Grimm”. Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote for me and those that support my work! Excerpt from Grimm Brother’s, Cinderella Story “Now that no one else was at home, Cinderella went to her mother’s grave beneath the hazel tree, and cried out: Shake and quiver, little tree, / Throw gold and silver down to me. / Then the bird threw a gold and silver dress down to her, and slippers embroidered with silk and silver. She quickly put on the dress and went to the festival….read more This is my artistic depiction of the Grimm Brother’s Cinderella. I used artistic license to add the fairies to the tree, the flowers and her dress. I even created a special fairy showering Cinderella with magic creating her dress, her crown, the carriage and horses. The late eveing sun gave some wonderful light in the wild woods of Harrow Weald. The path runs along Grym’s Dyke. The dyke or ditch is believed to be one of the few remaining Anglo-Saxon trenches in England, where Norse tribes were converted to Christianity in the 8th and 9th centuries. / Its name, the grim, is derived from the word ‘hooded’, a description of the dark appearance of the Norse god, Woden. Woden was the carrier-off of the dead and the god for whom Wednesday was named after. /
This is a shot taken in Spring of the bluebells that carpet the floor of the Weald. I remember playing In and Out the Dusty Bluebells as a child at school. I wonder if it is still played anywhere today? In and out the dusty bluebells: All but one of the children stand in a circle, hold hands, and then lift them up into arches. The remaining child weaves in and out of the arches to the tune of In and out the dusty bluebells, In and out the dusty bluebells, In and out the dusty bluebells, Who shall be my partner? The child then stops and stands behind one of the other children in the circle. While they all sing the chorus, the child behind taps on the child’s shoulder in front. Tippy tippy tappy on your shoulder, Tippy tippy tappy on your shoulder. Tippy Tippy tappy on your shoulder, You shall be my partner. The child behind then gets hold of the second child’s waist, and they weave through the arches together, with the remaining children cloing up the circle. Thetwo then pick a third child at the chorus, and so on, with the line getting longer and longer until the last two in the circle foorma an arch, one gets chosen as the last partner and the last child starts a new game in the middle. How simple life was then.

Here we see Rumpelstiltskin just before the queen over hears him reveal his true identity. “To-morrow I brew, to-day I bake, / And then the child away I’ll take; / For little deems my royal dame / That Rumpelstiltzkin is my name!” / —the Brothers Grimm / CREATION INFORMATION Medium: Illustration, Photo Composite, Mixed Media Design. photoshop / 2009 A free-form examination of an old fairy tale that I loved as a child.
Little Red Riding Hood is a famous fairy tale about a young girl’s encounter with a wolf. The story has changed considerably in its history, and been subject to numerous modern adaptations and readings. The version most widely known today is based on the Brothers Grimm variant It is about a girl called Little Red Riding Hood, after the red hooded cape or cloak she wears. The girl walks through the woods to deliver food to her sick grandmother. A wolf wants to eat the girl but is afraid to do so in public. He approaches the girl, and she naïvely tells him where she is going. He suggests the girl pick some flowers, which she does. In the meantime, he goes to the grandmother’s house and gains entry by pretending to be the girl. He swallows the grandmother whole, and waits for the girl, disguised as the grandmother. When the girl arrives, he swallows her whole too. A hunter, however, comes to the rescue and cuts the wolf open. Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother emerge unharmed. They fill the wolf’s body with heavy stones, which kill him. Other versions of the story have had the grandmother shut in the closet instead of eaten, and some have Little Red Riding Hood saved by the hunter as the wolf advances on her rather than after she is eaten. The tale makes the clearest contrast between the safe world of the village and the dangers of the forest, conventional antitheses that are essentially medieval, though no written versions are as old as that. Models – Two of my girls [oneis hard to spot, have a good look for her] / Background image taken at Pontardawe River, Wales / / Ok – you will not believe the fun my daughters and I had while getting the shots for this composition. Firstly the eldest, got into the middle of a river to lay on the rock in this shot [almost drowning in the process], then later, the other posed as death, furnishing a bed quilt around her head, while trudging, deathlike, around the kitchen at home. How we got either shot, amazes me as we were rolling about laughing. hope you enjoy this as much as we did putting it together. / / My eldest dressed in black chiffon and used dark eye make up to add to the overall effect of death and beauty. Her pose was forced at first, and I had to get her to lay on this rock for quite a while to get a more relaxed looking pose from her [as a dead person should look I suppose]. The lighting at the location [a small local river in Pontardawe, Wakes UK] was perfect for the shoot, it was not so dark as to need any extra lighting, but dark enough to look soft, and the light flitering through the trees gave a good effect of spotlighting. /
