  • Life is a blank canvas. Tonight… this is how I colour mine. Tulips on Table Cape

  • Her heart is filled with Mother Natures song. / The wind through her branches, the sun on her leaves, she feels that she will surely burst with the sheer joy of simply being alive. And so… She dances…

  • When the conditions are right where I live we experience the wonderful phenomena of sea fog. The first one I experienced was when I was “in between” cameras. I was devastated! I have been hoping ever since that we would get another one… I peered out the window today while I was on the phone and saw that today was the day! I had to make my apologies to my friend on the phone – a girl has to get her priorities right – and happily spent the next two hours snapping, with my young boys as my photography assistants. The title of this piece is inspired by one of my favourite scenes in Lord of the Rings. Gandalf the mighty wizard gives his life to ensure the freedom of his friends… and so my friend today gave to me the same gift of freedom as I hastily hung up the phone to explore my sea fog.

  • Many thanks must go to my son who faithfully held the umbrella to protect my Sami from the light drizzle that had started to fall at the end of our sea fog exploration on the weekend. I pass by this stand of trees four times a day and never have I seen them look so beautiful, so mysterious, so inviting. I was entranced by the light on the hill, shining through the fog… Sisters Beach, Tasmania

  • ...see your true self reflected. Photography: Rhana Griffin / Post Production: Paul Vanzella Many many thanks to Paul for his applying his considerable talents to the post work on this image. I’ve been PAUL VANZELLA’D!!! ...........and it was good ;)

  • The title of this image has been changed from Sunday Bloody Sunday courtesy of the comment made by Geoff Coleman

  • Away beyond the blue / One star belongs to you / And every breathe I take / I’m closer to that place / Yeah, baby / I’m gonna meet you there / On the outskirts of the sky / Yeah, baby / And we will fly / Away beyond the blue / One star belongs to you / This life is but a dream / Go gently down the stream… lyrics by Beth Nielsen Chapman

  • The Tardis… The ultimate Freedom Machine. Forget travelling back in time, or to planets inhabited by strange, fascinating and terribly sexy creatures. If Dr Who were to offer me a ride this is where I would want to go. Well… here or back to his place ;) Oh, and as for the fact that the real Tardis is blue not red – well of COURSE mine would be red! My blue phase is soooo yesterday ;)

  • Thats what I like about tomorrows. They are always filled with promise. A clean slate with no mistakes in it, no words spoken that may have been better left unsaid… Come find me Tomorrow. Je suis pret Sisters Beach, Tasmania

  • This is a collaborative transatlantic entry between myself and the incredibly talented and totally awesome billyboy in Belgium for RedBubbles Gaia – The Living Planet competition. Now, I’m not a religious person, but I wanted to illustrate by using billyboys Noah’s Ark image that if we dont start taking care of this planet we are living on I truly / believe we will be in for a disaster of biblical proportions. All that is beautiful and wondrous will simply disappear… like so many ephemeral bubbles. We are all interconnected, and we must find our harmony with Gaia, or risk losing it all. Many thanks to billyboy for sharing my vision, and giving so generously of his time, blood, tears and love to bring this vision into glorious life. Concept: Rhana / Background artwork: Billyboy / Art within the bubbles: Rhana / Bubble creation: Billyboy / Design: Rhana / Title Inspiration: Billyboy For those interested in buying the totally hawt tee of this image its now available over at billyboys place. Proceeds from sales of the tee go to the STV Foundation.

  • Its winter! YAY!!! Thanks to PotUSA for the title inspiration!! self portrait

  • If these branches could speak…...what tales would they tell? A beautiful old soul who stands at the edge of the Mother Earth Nature Walk at Tarkine Wilderness Lodge.

  • Many thanks to Geoff Coleman for graciously lending me his lightening bolt to create this image. He hasn’t seen it yet so I hope he likes it! The highway image was taken on our trek across the Nullabor Plain when we moved from WA to Tasmania, on the part where there is not one single bend in the road for 100km’s… or is it 100miles? Oops… I forget, nevermind, I am sure someone will let me know =) It’s a bloody long stretch of straight road anyways ;) Stormchaser I no longer hide under the bed =)

  • I was inspired this morning after reading and commenting on Julie Langford’s Post. It made me remember that sometimes the journey – the people you meet, the things you learn along the way – is more important than the destination. So despite the bitter frosty morning I rugged myself up (two thermals are better than one) and set out to greet nature and the day with Sami and my trusty tripod in tow. Turns out The Day had advance warning from Nature that I was coming (I think it was the blue wren who visits me that let the secret out)... and together they turned on an absolutely gorgeous – albeit bloody freezing – show. This is most likely the easiest image I have ever had in post production, the only enhancement it has had is a slight vignette added. For the mist gently rising off the water… the glorious colour… the frost on the reeds… the delicate reflections… the beautiful ray of illuminating light… I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Nature and The Day. Title inspiration from Newton Faulkner’s song “Gone in the Morning” Best viewed LARGE

  • As I was just finishing up taking photos with a friend of mine I saw this scene and just couldn’t resist. I quickly set up Automatic exposure bracketing just the be sure and this is the result. Shot: Canon 400D + Canon 10-22 f/3.5 – f/4.5 @ 1/200, 1/400 (-1), 1/100 (+1), f/10, ISO100. Post-Processing: I used Photomatix to blend the three exposures and then applied some curves and levels masks as well as some sharpening in Adobe Photoshop CS3.

  • .... I can weather any of life’s little storms. For my friends Deb and Helen, and anyone else who has been blessed to know friendship such as this in their lives.

  • The Rainforests of the Tarkine, some 177,000 hectares, include the largest unbroken stand of rainforest in Australia. A relic from the ancient continent, Gondwanaland, the Tarkine rainforest is one of the most significant temperate rainforests on earth. It is home to 56 threatened and endangered species, such as the Giant Freshwater Crayfish – the world’s largest freshwater invertebrate and the Tasmanian Wedge Tailed Eagle – the largest Eagle in Australia. These rainforests are recognised as being one of the most significant tracts of temperate rainforest on earth, and are under imminent threat. While logging of pure stands of rainforest is occurring in and around the periphery of the Tarkine, the logging industry is pushing the Tasmanian Government to allow logging through the heart of the Tarkine Rainforests. This would divide the rainforest and seriously fragment the Tarkine’s wilderness qualities. Information sourced from John Merory I recently had the pleasure of working with Maree Jenkins who is soon to be opening her Tarkine Wilderness Lodge in the heart of the Tarkine Rainforest. Maree shared with me her love and intense passion for this very important little corner of the world. By establishing the Lodge as a viable tourism venture Maree hopes to stave off the chainsaws and brutal machinery of the Government which threaten to steal the life breath of the forest, stripping it of its natural beauty. Save our forests. They desperately need our voice for they have no voice of their own.

  • More “finding phojo” work. Best viewed large Images also available individually.

  • Taken on a recent trip to Port Arthur – my most favourite place in the world so far. This is the avenue that leads to the Port Arthur church, otherwise known as my sanctuary :) I have visited Port Arthur many times, however this was the first time I have seen it wearing it’s autumn colours. So very beautiful…

  • As the planets finally aligned, last week saw me in the right place at the right time… with my camera! I drive past this dam every time I go into town, and at last I captured it in this perfect mood.

  • More macro-ey goodness. Yellow always makes me smile :)
