Mike's Valentine's Day present for me...

The last few days I’ve been convinced that Mike had a stomach virus. Or something. Something was definitely going on in his nether regions because he has been in the bathroom constantly. I begged him last night to take some Pepto, and he refused, telling me there was nothing wrong. So then, why, I asked, was he in the bathroom sooo much the last few days!? I mean seriously – it seemed like every couple hours he was running upstairs. I’d ask where he was going in such a hurry and he always replied, “Bathroom.” So tell me… what’s a girl to think?? I mean, I know men have their ways with things and like to have their weird little private moments or whatever – but this was ridiculous. And now he was telling me there was nothing wrong? Fast forward to today. / I had a doctor’s appointment a little while ago – just a checkup, don’t worry. I get back and he tells me he has something for me. So I’m sitting here, at the computer, and he brings me a piece of paper and a white box with a red ribbon on it. I’m thinking, sweet! First thing’s first… I look at the paper. And I’m blown away. It’s so cute!! I had NO idea he was working on this! Of course, that was his plan all along. So I asked him how in the world he managed to do this without me knowing? (Keep in mind we’re together 24/7/365.) He says to me, “Bathroom.” OH MY GOD. / You’re kidding me, right?!? / No. All those times he was running upstairs to ‘use the bathroom’ he was actually sneaking away to draw and color this for me. Is that not the sweetest thing you’ve heard in a LONG time!? OH! And the box with the red ribbon… / my favorites. / Chocolate-covered strawberries. / He knows me all too well. I so love this guy.

"Mr. Frog's Belch" Design Rejected by Zazzle...

...then given an award for Today’s Best. / / How friggin funny is THAT?! / / We submitted the design for a stamp, thinking it would be a funny thing to see on mail. Pure and simple unadulterated fun, right? Apparently not so! / / Here’s an excerpt of the rejection notice we received: / / The following Zazzle Custom Stamp could not be approved: / Product Title: Mr. Frog’s Belch / Product Type: Stamp / Product ID: 172719026690854964 / Contributor: crockpot / Result: Not Approved / Policy Violations: / Includes material that Zazzle believes would hurt its reputation. / May be considered violent, profane, deceptive, abusive, menacing, harmful, or threatening. / / My guess is that Zazzle thought the design might offend people. (Whatever.) But to give the standard, impersonal rejection that they did is a bit much. It’s an f’ing cartoon of a frog, for crying out loud!! / / “Includes material that Zazzle believes would hurt its reputation.” / Are you kidding me??? / They need NO help with hurting their rep. They already do a damn fine job of that on their own. Poorly printed products, printing products where the design is upside-down or inverted, sending out the WRONG products to customers, HORRIBLE customer service when it comes to resolving issues and “24-hour shipping” that takes 2 weeks (for a magnet!) are just a few of the things in Zazzle’s hallmark of reputation. / / And they’re worried about Mr. Frog burping. / / Mike and I have been laughing our asses off. This is just so hilarious and all too typical of Zazzle. / / OMG… I laugh so hard every time I read that. / / At any rate, I just HAD to share this with you all. I know that a lot of you fellow Zazzlers (and ex-Zazzlers) will get a huge kick out of this. >:) / / / / / /

And Now For Something Completley Different - MIKE!

Hey Everyone, I haven’t yet written a journal entry yet, mainly because I’m lazy and also because Lorie has been doing such a good job of it. But maybe it’s time to step forward a bit and let you in on a bit more about me. Many of you have left great comments about my cartooning and artwork, which is very encouraging indeed. Sometimes when inspiration is low, getting some supportive feedback can light the fire under by butt to work again. I know Lorie appreciates it massively as well. Basically my style is the sum of my influences, mostly from underground greats like Vaughn Bode and Robert Crumb. I also love silent animation of the twenties and look to early horror films for inspiration also. And speaking of horror, my 9 year old daughter Eve has been giving us some great ideas for horror and zombie based designs lately. Rarely have I ever been so proud in my time as a parent. The main thing in my life is music. I’ve been obsessed with it for a damn long time now, and it just gets more intense the older I get. When I’m not drawing, I play guitar, write music reviews, download old, rare albums and upload my writing to music sites like Rate Your Music. Here’s the link should you wanna check out my page. My activity in it is intense enough that Eve can identify different strains of heavy metal, just from her own listening experience. She doesn’t particularly like it, but she knows what it is, and that’s a start. I’m also interested in religion and history, especially when they include the more morbid periods in history. Where there’s torture, heresy, disease and blasphemy, you’ll find me as well. At least figuratively speaking. So there you go, my first entry! Any thoughts, comments or rotten tomatoes are welcome and encouraged, so let ‘em fly! Peace, Mike

I just want to take a minute to highlight some of my favorite artists here that are speaking out on behalf of animals. Animal rights and welfare is something near and dear to our hearts, and I feel a really special bond with many people I’ve met on here that feel the same way. So, here are a few of my favorite designs. Please make a point to check out these awesome artists and their fabulous artwork! Chains Bite for Dogs Deserve Better by Hoffard Unconditional for Defenders of Wildlife by Midnightdreamer Save a Life for PETA and HSUS by Samitha Hess For more great animal rights and welfare artwork please check out our group Voices for Animals.
