The Green Man is an ancient pagan symbol of our relationship to the plant kingdom. Men become tree-like, and the Green Man sports plants and leaves and boughs growing from his mouth or beard or his hair. / In the Green Man we have an archetype for our relationship to both the cosmos and the Earth – to Father Sky and Mother Earth. Plants are born from and connect the two. Plants are, like us, cosmic beings; they guarantee that the sun’s generous efforts to pour its energy over the earth are not in vain. The Sun finds ready receptivity in the plants. / Interestingly, the archetype of the Green Man also respects silence and introspection, which are common traits among farmers and indigenous peoples, those who remain close to the land. The Green Man honors for us how rich and deep the roots of nature are, telling us that we need to germinate under the soil, in the silence of our hearts. This is a painting I did for a T-shirt design, then fractilius filtered with redfield plug-ins, in photoshop7 Celtic Spirit
Acrylic painting on canvas inspired by folklore and the mysterious ‘Face Through the Leaves’ which has always fascinated me. I used holly and ivy from my garden to refer to for this painting. Images of the Green Man have been found all around the world.
based on Madron Holy Well in South Cornwall. The tradition of hanging offerings of flowers and rags and ribbons is still in practice today amongst Pagans in the UK. This image was inspired by the beauty and fertility of may when the bluebells and Horse Chestnut is in bloom and mayday (Beltane) is the traditional time for well dressings and leaving offerings to the water spirits and fairies.
One of my favorite Celtic symbols drawn/painted with Wacom pen/pad and edited in Photoshop7… GreenMan
This is a photo of me wearing an oak king mask I made from neoprene.
Goodbye Bubble friends! I’ve gone legally blind outlining this guy! / / 2 layers, light swirls, sunlight on shower curtain. Mirth is on the front of my house, one of the few days I’ve ever seen light on him. He lives in a shady place. / / Mirth: resin cast, sculpture by Walter S. This image is for all those who walk a simerla path to myself, i have been planning to draw a collection of images based on the yearly sabbats and this is the first one i have so far compleated. And all Redbubble’rs will be the first to see it haveing only compleated it last night. / Like most of my work there is a heavy celtic theam in this image but i have tryed to add as much symbolism as i could just to add to the power of the image, the figures are based with in a pentagram surronded by spirals of the waxing and waining moon, and then there is the cressent moon and the blazing sun, there is more but i dont want to give it all away and its fun to see if others can pick up on what is hidden in all my work.
Or at least we hope thats the case 2007© Tammy Soulliere AKA Insane Reflections/InsaneVirtue
