  • This lovely green Australian native terrestrial orchid is a very fine specimen of Pterostylis nutans (Nodding Greenhood Orchid). They flower from May to December, mainly July to October and grow up to 30cm tall, however many are quite short, upwards of 5-10cm only, flower about 25mm diameter. This li’l green nodder was photographed along a track at Diamond Head in the Crowdy Bay National Park, Laurieton, NSW, Australia, about an hour’s drive south of Port Macquarie. I was on a day outing with my Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club and was first to spot and photograph this great find – the first in my collection. • This native Australian orchid, the Large Striped Greenhood or Diplodium robustum is blooming right now in conservation parks in the Adelaide Hills. I have this one growing in a pot so I could set it up for photography. Canon 40D, Canon 24-70L, tripod and cable release. / 1 sec @ F8, ISO 100 This image featured in the group Black with a hint of colour in September 2009. Thanks so much!

  • Mullewa Wildflower Walk, WA Surprizingly, I’ve never seen these before and there were 100’s of them.

  • A watercolour of green hood orchids an indigenous Australian wildflower.

  • This is a macro photo of one of my favourite native Kangaroo Island wildflowers. The background has been digitally painted to avoid picking the orchid. The colours for the painting are taken from what was originally there, but it just removes anything messy that detracts from the flower. I love how the various kinds of Greenhood orchids look like glass sculptures. Like this one looks a little like a vase to me. :)

  • Image of this Nodding Greenhood Orchid taken in Maryknoll, West Gippsland, Victoria, 30 August 2009.
