To me, this is quintessentially Italy – rolling hills, unified trees, brilliant light and hard edge graphic signs. If it wasn’t for this bold little blue sign, I’d be driving off onto the wrong side of the road everytime. This image sums up Italy for me and whilst staying in a small country village I spyed this wonderful image with dark looming sky in the background, sun drenched light in the foreground, and a distant abode living quite contently in the rustle of its surrounding trees. I was riding my auntie’s old school push-bike, with daughter in rear and cameras in a very girly basket in the front – who cares what I looked like, I got the shot! (may even post the bike with me on it – not flattering)

This is my ” Dream Home” and has been for a rather long while now. It sits right across the street from my friends house, so I see it often. Some find this home scary looking, but I find it intriguing….very much so.

This is exactly how it looked in 1989. The ivy stays here year round. It’s weird, because it’s barren outside; winter. But when you step inside (which isn’t hard..you simply step through the wall) it looks like a summer day. Very odd & surreal feeling. I often get questions about the pump house and the diving blocks at Merewether Beach so I found out a bit of info….. 1935 / At a cost of 2,600 pounds, Merewether Ocean Baths, acclaimed as the ‘largest of their kind in the State’ opened as part of the Merewether Golden Jubilee celebrations in November. There was a procession in fancy dress from the Council chambers to the baths. Considered ‘the greatest advertisement for Merewether as a residential suburb’, the new baths had been built further seaward and a little to the south of the older Merewether baths on the same rock platform. At 110 yards by 90 yards, they were ‘big enough to hold the larger swimming events’ and separated into a main pool and a children’s pool by a wide promenade. The main pool nearest the sea was 110 yards long and 55 yards wide, while the shore portion was 110 yards long and 35 yards wide. The 3,500 pounds for relief work on the baths had been paid by the NSW government. Excavation of the baths promised to yield 6,000 to 7,000 cubic yards of stone valued at 2,500 pounds. Merewether Council was seeking a further government loan to cover the construction of dressing-sheds at the baths. The new baths became central to the life of the community and prompted more people from the Lower Hunter district to visit Merewether. This shot was taken on the way home from a motorcycle trip to Dayton, OH. My buddy was getting a little ticked off at my wanting to stop to take this shot, as we tried to outrun the rain. Am I glad we stopped !!! This looked like an old church, that someone then had used as a residence for years. I LOVE the red leather chair on the porch, and the sky was just perfect for HDR. Taken with Nikon D300 and Tokina 12-24mm lens. Post processing included HDR treatment, and some dodge & burn.
