Ever dreamed of sneaking away to a quiet, tranquil spot…lush vegetation, hearing the sounds of the forest and spending the day relaxing, reading a good book and having the most yummy picnic? / Well here is a little oasis I created. It looks a lot like an area of New Zealand called the Marlborough Sounds. What childhood memories are made of. The old bach (or crib)...simple holiday home with comfortable but basic living conditions. Getting away from the rat race.
Doubtful Sound, Fiordland, New Zealand on a beautiful sunny winter day. This was just after a large dump of snow in the area. Despite the sunny sky it was very cold – you can see the ice on the surface of the water in this shot.
I caught up with my thoughts just before Greytown, the storm caught up with me shortly after.
On the walk up to Hooker glacier….I piked….and hung around the suspension bridge taking lots of photos. HDR – Canon 5D, 16-35mm at 16mm, f/22, ISO 100 New Zealand / Seascapes / Frogs / Lensbaby / Infrared / Industrial / Spam / Panorama / Landscapes / Real Estate Series / People
It’s stinking hot here today, humid and sweltering…...so here’s a shot from New Zealand’s Franz Joseph Glacier to help cool things down a little Canon 5D, 16-35mm at 16mm, f/11, 1/50”, ISO 50. This one’s been swimming around in the back of my mind for a while now but I couldn’t get it quite the way I want it. I’m still not 100% sure it’s perfect so who knows, I may fiddle some more later if I decide it’s not right! :) Five Apophysis fractals, no scripts, just manual fiddling and overlaying in PSP. :) These flames are all mutations of one another and as they went by me I thought it looked like a planet coming into existence, hence the idea of a planetal “genesis” artwork. For those of you who remember, Falkor was the name of the Luck Dragon in The Neverending Story, back in the eighties. I always loved the movie and Falkor was an adorable cross between a dog and a dragon, strange though that might seem, who stuck with me always. :) / A marriage between Apophysis and Photoshop Elements 2.0. Individual flames combined into one piece, no scripts, just manual fiddling. SOLD: 1 Laminated print of this image, November 2009. 500+ Viewings Group: 1184 views at time of submission. Autumn blur images from Australia and New Zealand
This one has been sitting unfinished on my PC for a few weeks, I was just not sure what I wanted to do with it until last night when I was reminded of the beautiful song “Autumn Leaves”, originally by Edith Piaf (in French, naturally), but beautiful also in its English translation as below. This was one of my favourite songs to sing when I was a teenager and I have wonderful memories of singing this to the beautiful piano accompaniment played by my cousin Anina. :) This is a mixed media piece in which I digitally combined a roller ball drawing I did for the purpose, with a chalk pastel drawing and photographic textures and brushes. Proudly New Zealand-made. :) Featured in Imaginative Realism, Sept 26, 2009. / Featured in Dimensions Oct 11, 2009. / Featured in Inspired Art Oct 18, 2009. Autumn Leaves Artist: Eva Cassidy / English Lyrics by Johnny Mercer and Music by Joseph Kosma The falling leaves drift by my window / The falling leaves of red and gold / I see your lips, the summer kisses / The sunburned hands I used to hold Since you went away the days grow long / And soon I’ll hear old winter’s song / But I miss you most of all, my darling / When autumn leaves start to fall Since you went away the days grow long / And soon I’ll hear old winter’s song / But I miss you most of all, my darling / When autumn leaves start to fall I miss you most of all, my darling / When autumn leaves start to fall
