It can grow to a height of 150 feet or more, towering over other trees in the rainforest. Originally a native to South America it now has spread to the primary rainforests of West Africa, and the Southeast Asian rainforests of the Malay Peninsula, and the Indonesian archipelago.

The Thistle – The Flower of Scotland. The story goes the English were planning to attack a Scottish camp at night. They started to advance on the sleeping Scots but one of the Englishmen crawled into a Thistle and gave out a yell thus alerting the Scots to the coming attack. The Scots managed to gather their wits about them and fend of the attack. From that moment onwards the Thistle has been the national flower.

I don’t usually shoot where I don’t also have the creative control with the concept and wardrobe but Constance wanted to try out some crazy feather makeup action for her MUA portfolio and went nuts creating the high fashion ’ poison ivy’ concept around it. Talented minx that she is also designed and whipped up some outfits of hotness to dress our model with and I think she did a fabbbhulous job! :D

This amazing little fellow is some kind of Leaf Hopper…still awaiting a positive ID from BugGuide.net. / My son (of course) found it crawling up the stem of a dandelion. / Found in NE Missouri at a park that I visit sometimes inside a city. A great little appreciated location to enjoy nature. / I’ve never seen a bug with these kind of spikes…and all the leaf hoppers I’ve seen were tiny. This guy was a little over 1/4 an inch…and possibly still a juvenile.

The native New Zealand Cordyline Australis aka Cabbage Tree and having the maori name of Te Tii. Named Cabbage Tree because the soft heart at the base of the leaves is reminiscent of cabbage. I’ve tried it and its much nicer than cabbage. This tree is actually a gigantic member of the dracaena family. / This photo has been given a single photo psuedo hdr treatment then layered with a grain merge texture. / Panasonic Lumix FZ5
