  • A tiny solitary fungai nestles in the crook of a mossy tree stump.

  • The Thistle – The Flower of Scotland. The story goes the English were planning to attack a Scottish camp at night. They started to advance on the sleeping Scots but one of the Englishmen crawled into a Thistle and gave out a yell thus alerting the Scots to the coming attack. The Scots managed to gather their wits about them and fend of the attack. From that moment onwards the Thistle has been the national flower.

  • Its some roadside Poppies. I saw these as I was driving along a country road last year & stopped to take a few pictures. They seem to Poppy up everywhere. Mind you the outside lane of the busy M725 is possibly not the best place to stop & take pictures. Its the only four lane motorway on the Island of Auchterchuchty. Which caused a lot of controversy with the locals when it was built. / The Island of Auchterchty is only two miles long & three miles wide at its respective widest points. The Islanders had applied for a grant to build a community Hall but this had been refused on the grounds that there wasn’t a suitable road infrastructure to deal with the increased traffic flow in the area. Instead funds were provided to fund the construction of the new Hyper Link Motorway. This would speed up the traffic flow from the Field on the west corner of the Island to the field in the north corner. All good & well but the only motorised vehicle on the island is the post ,masters moped & as your all aware mopeds are not allowed on motorways. The Chief Constable said if he caught the post master on the motorway he would have no choice but to revoke his driving licence. This in turn would have caused the Chief of Police huge problems as he is also the post master. In fact he’s the only resident on the island so you can see this would have put him at a great disadvantage. Daisy the only cow on the island still uses the bridal way to make the trip between the two fields & the Post master has handed in his notice in protest. If you ever get a chance to visit Auchterchuchty say hello & tell him Robin sent you. TTFN / / / /

  • Go large if you possibly can for best effect! Just something about this makes me wish I could pick up a paintbrush… Straight from the camera uncropped taken on the water of Leith – a river walk walk through hidden Edinburgh. (Olympus SP560UZ: f/3.9 : 1/60sec :15mm focal length:ISO-125)

  • Overgrown with stinging nettles this bench sits on the rhododendron covered banks at the mouth of the lovely river Tay in Kenmore, Scotland. Parties mark the start of its famous salmon fishing season here and it looks like the fishermen then waste no time sitting down and just wade in !! :)) See also misty loch tay taken a few hundred yards away where the river goes into the loch.. . a really beautiful spot! / ;))

  • Lone tree on the shores of Loch Lomond, Scotland. Shot on a stormy November evening.

  • View from the top of Cademuir Hill on along the John Buchan Way from Broughton to Peebles in the scottish borders. This ascent was optional in the 14 mile walk but who could resist the chance to stand looking down the valley on the site of this old Iron Age hillfort with its defensive line of jaggy stones (possibly called ‘chevaux-de-frises’) sited in such a way as to be invisible to an attacking force until they breasted the rise and were among the stones…. A closeup of these rocks can be seen in this great bubble jeopardy game here The legendary King Arthur and the wizard Merlin are associated with the area too.. Arthurs kingdom extended from Cornwall right up to Scotland and he’s reputed to have fought a battle in this area which would have been occupied at that time by local tribes after the Romans departed. More fascinating details especially regarding Merlins end can be seen here And another view from the hillfort as the weather blowings in from up the valley… / / / /
