Wind-blown tree dahlia (Dahlia imperialis) flowers photographed on a blustery day, with bees visiting and pollinating the flowers.

This is a ruby red lacewing butterfly, and the way it had it’s proboscis inserted into the flower made me think of that moment when we first get a nice thick milkshake, and we are sucking hard on the straw, fighting against the frozen delight to extract it’s sweet creaminess!

I love my camera. It has this really cool telemacro setting that I use constantly now. This bee was about 7-8 feet from where I was standing when I took this. © Cadence Gamache

A little red ant having a good old time rolling around in the pollen, he seemed a bit perturbed at my lens following him all around though.

A fitting scene to depict this time of year; everyone trying to get the last bits of summer pollen before it’s gone, the light is changing, the air is cooler and the day’s are shorter. Olympus E-3, Sigma 50-500 mm tf at 450mm, f/11 @ 1/100” ISO 100

Caught this bee doing some acrobatic maneuvers and tried to get the funny side of it on camera but it moved slightly. Seems like it could be a nice card telling people to “Hang in there….” /

A bee from my garden as he was busy doing what bees do. / Just look at the eye, it looks as if the stampers are forming a golden burst at the bottom of his eye. Love it

This little ladybird likes life precarious :) / What I like the most about this photo is the abstract line in the leaf and in the background. Somehow the whole composition, and/or situation, seems poetic to me. /

I think this is an ordinary European honey bee Apis mellifera, consuming nectar and pollen from the flowers of a giant dill / fennel plant (grown from feral varieties found locally), in a fenced backyard garden, Brunswick, Victoria, Australia. Honey-bee colouring varies. This one has a comparitively light brown-on-brown stripes.

I was outside taking photos yesterday and saw that most of the dandelions in the yard had one ant on each one. They were crawling all over, up and down on them getting completely covered in pollen. I had never seen that before so decided to get right down there with them and watch for a while.
