This is a photo of my niece that I shot before I had a digital camera. I scanned the photo, added it over and image by CruelDreams that I edited in ps by using the channel mixer, dodging, burning, cloning and added text. Took a photo of a butterfly and selected each wing section separately and cut and moved them into position using transform. Adjusted the opacity of those layers to give each wing section a transparent appearance. Painted with the airbrush tool on a lower opacity over the wings to make the colors tie in with the costume. Also used the airbrush with warm color to add the effect of light coming from her wand illuminating the darkness around her and added touches to her and her wings where I felt the light would hit.

Oil Pastel and Acrylic on old wood with slight digital enhancements Ophelia, puzzled by the radical transformation that had taken place overnight to this butterfly friend of hers, thought to herself, “She was in a white thread-like casing yesterday, how did all that happen so fast? There must be something magical about that case!” This is inspired by a book Hope For The Flowers by Trina Paulus. This is a cute and yet thought provoking story about two caterpillars who because they mistake the meaning of their urge to get high, get entangled climbing a horrible “caterpillar pillar”. And for two caterpillars, we all know, surrendering to the cocoon is the only way to finally fly. Hope For the Flowers is a book that celebrates HOPE. My fave lines from the book is “How does one become a butterfly?” She asked pensively. “You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.” We are all meant to be as beautiful and free like the butterflies, that’s our destiny…as we free ourselves to be who we really are…and together with our innate talents,we bring hope to the world around us, bringing change inevitably around us :D / You can view and buy my other “Metamorphosis” creations from my Zazzle Gallery:

This one was a fun shoot, lots of lighting experiments… WIDE open aperture and strong back lighting under the palm leaf and I finally for the result I wanted, with a 2 shot HDR merge. Full moon of the 7th July 2009. Unfortunately the moon rise this evening was cloudy, didn’t show till late. Same with the Moonset :( Oh well, I’m sure it’s not going anywhere!! :) Canon 50D, 400mm. 3200 ISO is a brave new world for me. As a self confessed low ISO junkie, one who used Ektar 25 film whenever and wherever he could for many years because I wanted tight grain, the tighter the better, I would pull out all the stops I could to use that amazing ISO 25 film! For sure I’d never gone above ISO 1000 and then only to shoot indoor sporting events. Low ISO was(?) a hang-up for me! But I wanted to try astral photography and high ISO can get you there! However as we all know high ISO leads to increased noise which is something fairly new to me. You can use software and Photoshop plugins but I’ve been considering, one way to control noise would be to minimize or eliminate it by keeping the ISO as low as possible and that’s one way I‘m leaning. So in that regard it looks like a fast 50 prime is in order! It’s fun to be experimenting and learning, eh! Camera Model Canon EOS 50D / Tv( Shutter Speed ) 30 / Av( Aperture Value ) 3.5 / ISO Speed 3200 / Focal Length 18.0mm / Flash at 1/16 power and about 12 or 13 paper towels for diffusion. “One Night Under the Milky Way” was shot at Flamber Head on Newfoundland’s East Coast Trail For more information please visit Brian’s Homepage or on Flickr
