Lady of the Wildwood portrays the second, mother aspect of the Great mother (virgin, mother, crone) and is based on ancient Celtic myth and spirituality. When creating her I incorporated an alchemical formula for gold (wholeness and balance), a form of blessing on anyone who studies the image and the places where she hangs. Most of the elements represent images of alchemical symbols used during the early Dark Ages. Her consort is the Stag King, another painitng on my Red Bubble page. Here’s a portion of the material I’ve written about her: “I am the feminine spirit of the wildwood; past, present, and future. I sprout the fertile acorn, guard the pregnant doe heavy with fawn, and personify life energy emanating from the primordial forest itself. Withing my womb you see the Royal Child, my future dancing baby. We represent a visual doorway opening into the circle: embrace the poetry of my closed system in which all is connected, the great web of creation is my being. Nothing is simply a thing; all has life and properties of its own. Beware; don’t make the mistake of assuming this doesn’t exist. Think of the pentagram and its five points: the elements of earth, water, fire, air and the fifth essence, ether (the quint – essence); life quality made by a sentient, universal creative force. Pale and luminous against deep forest shadows, I am light itself, ruling the kingdoms of nature. My heart glows with life, rosy with health. Within the shadows are my creatures, my beloved hares and deer, birds and salamanders, all composed of graceful, vine – like patterns. This represents their wild environment and interconnectedness. You can understand me on many levels, all true, for I represent Queen of Fairy, the feminine energy of the wild and untamed wood. The Lord of the Wildwood, masculine energy perfected and personified, is my consort. I am the goddess in her guise as Earth Mother and protect the feral and freeborn. I was lucky enough to spend nearly an hour swimming alongside this juvenille green turtle (Chelonia mydas) on the fringing reef at Lady Elliott Island in the Southern part of the Great Barrier Reef. Lady Elliott is a beautiful island that is home to a wide variety of marine life and seabirds. Best of all the resort is reasonably priced fairly basic accommodation unlike most of the rest of the island resorts in the GBR. If you get the chance then Lady Elliott is well worth the trip. During my week long visit I would have seen more than >10 green turtles, hatchlings on the beach, sharks, rays, gourpers and a myriad of other reef fish. The coral reef on the other side of the island is spactacular with huge plate (Acropora sp.) corals everywhere. It is truly magic.

Inspired by the textures of luxury and oppulance this painting has been created using mediums ranging from acrylic, glue, inks, gold leaf, shellac, pastel and layers of various papers. Please view the large version of this painting if you have the time, I believe it shows the details and textures much better. I will be very interested in your comments as this painting presented many hurdles during the process, some mediums just don’t like working together! Pastel is not traditionally varnished, but I have defied tradition! For developement of the painting you can view my journal entry where I have uploaded a few pictures of this work in progress. Now that it is complete I will upload a few more of the stages of developement for those interested, yes BillyLee – I am thinking of you : ) Thanks for viewing and leaving your comments. Carmen : )

I Turned the water dragon lizard that lives outside are house into a dragon with hand drawn by pencil wings scanned in to the computer, then I added colour to the wings. Then I put my wife on it with my sons 3 dollar toy sword. As well the harness is my belt and the Sattel is my sister and laws.The back ground is the desert in Arizona. Five photos and one drawing and photoshop.
