Before our President elect was official, the current administration reacted to the knowing that they were almost out of power, by enacting measures to take Wolves off the Endangered species list, allowing power plants to operate near national parks, loosen regulations for factory farm waste and make it easier for mountaintop coal-mining operations. / I am agitated by all these efforts, however my greater concern is for the WOLF, as it was nearly eradicated here in the 20th century, remarkably recovered by sincere and persistent efforts, only to be threatened once again by the powers-that-be… As the Mourning Moon rises, we give thoughts to brother Wolf / whilst a mighty pen has warranted their sudden deaths to engulf A totem called upon for protection and strength to be taught / is in need of our right actions, not just words – to be fought From each sacred direction the mighty wolf pack calls / for their survival, as others’ face extinction with their fall From the Northern lights an airborne shooting hunt ensues / upon Ice-leapers’ lair, so a governors’ ego does not bruise In the east, paper stained with crude oil and blood / seals Dawn-treaders fate with powers’ arrogant flood To the south ignorance is bliss, to simply remove / Sun-chaser to another place with hunting skills to prove In the west, talk is cheap as habitat quickly disappears / so the Night-stalker fades into the shadows of souvenirs A pack of human voices is needed now to howl / in this eleventh hour, working together – on the prowl. There seems to be no end to the greed at American International Group. Edward Liddy, chairman, tried to make the case that bonuses are needed to keep skilled executives. Have they no shame at all? The other image is one I took in Philadelphia by the 30th Street Station. This homeless man was sharing what little bread he had with the pigeons. Why is it in America that we reward the first, and blame the second? mixed media on wash&draw paper A3 .. inspired by conversation with DAMcD and some Roy Skogvold’s works / .. visual contemplation on the nature of ‘sin’ as being an integral part of our human make up … symbolism of gold / silver colour to accentuate the preciousness ( preciousness of the perceived value we often attach to our sinful preoccupations as well as preciousness intended for our bodies) ... bright colors for a loving design … blots and drips to symbolize the tainting of the otherwise perfect relationship between the Creator and the Creature …... / ... there is a traditional categorization of sins … these days perhaps rather outdated by realization that sin as such does not really hold some exact categories …. nevertheless I am upholding – very loosely – these categories for the sake of series of images on this theme …. armed with my sons ‘atlas of human anatomy’ .... looking more closely and lovingly onto “the clay” we are all made up of …..

Here’s my nod to the Halloween-horrors of life: the mask that isn’t a mask. It’s the face of cruelty and ignorance and greed and hate…all gussied up with feathers and pretty colors. Try to remove it and you’ll find that it’s not a mask at all. It’s the visage of evil, not a treat at all. Scanned image of me in a mask, with photo images of tree trunks added for texture and one image of my eyes (I don’t keep my eyes open for scanning…). Editing and digital painting done in Photoshop Elements 3, scanning completed in ArcSoft Photostudio and CanoScan8800F. /
