/ Tessalated Coast by Peter Martin Ok, so here’s my suggestion (feel free to ignore it) Last year I went to a wedding in Lorne on the Great Ocean Road and saw how well they accommodated a larger group. Seeing as how there are a few RedBubblers who live over that way who missed out on our Melbourne Meet Ups, I thought it might be nice to go visit. Great Ocean Road Cottages in Lorne is not only wonderfully cheap, (works out to about $50 per head or they have a backpackers on site if your want cheaper) but the people who run it are lovely and very helpful. You can make use of the electric kitchens to self cater or go to the cafes and pubs down the road. The cottages are a 2 minute walk from an IGA or 10 minute walk to the nearest pub. (Yes, they have Red Wine) / Erskine Falls Reborn by Michael Eyssens The accommodation is a series of small cottages with a queen bed downstairs and 2-3 single beds upstairs. I’d suggest that we organise ourselves into small groups of 3-5 and book a cottage for each group as they are put together. The cottages are all close enough together that it does not matter which one you are in however they are holding a few close together for us until I get back to them in a couple of days. Staying in Lorne will put us within a short drive of the otways and several lovely looking great ocean road sites if we want artistic inspiration. The cottages, while designed to sleep 4-5, are suitable to entertain a group of people and say, sprawl out a game of twister or something. I’ve called them to ensure that they have enough room for us on the night of Sat October 27th and all is good. My thinking is that we could head over early Saturday, spend a day doing bush things and a day doing beach things. What do you think? P.S – Sorry Jess for ambushing this idea!! / Lorne Pier,Victoria by Joe Mortelliti

There is trouble in paradise. We have a problem with Xavier, and, surprisingly it has nothing to do with his hair, but with the phenomenal speed with which he devours biscuits. We’ve all had to take a pay cut just to keep the kitchen stocked. It’s getting ri-dic-u-lous. So we took his biscuits away, and see how sad he looks: However we couldn’t stand to look at his sorrow for too long, so we struck a deal with him, he could once again dive face first into a box of Arnott’s best, if he managed to design a new RedBubble logo by the end of the week. That’s right folks, a new logo. Which we’ll host on the site. But don’t worry, we know it’ll be crap, so we probably won’t use it for long, but we’ll all feel better about owing our landlords rent if we know he has had to make an effort to earn his sugar rush. Please feel free to mock or encourage him below as you see fit. And if you really feel sorry for him you can send some Arnott’s Kingstons or Mint Slices to the following address: Mr Xavier Archibald Fotherington Shay / Unit 2/192 Argyle Street / Fitzroy / VIC 3065 / Oztrayleea Thank you for your time. Ok I ummed and ahhed about putting this up but… First let me declare my interest…I have been doing some work for another photo on-line gallery (eek…gasp you say…) Well my day job is as a marketing person and hey they pay me…(my night job is eating, having a roof over my head and being able to look after my wonderful pup)... Anyway, that is my interest – they are a client. I should say in my opinion I think their offer is very different from Red Bubble. No t-shirts, writing or illustrative or computer art JUST photography (or should I say photographic art). Different price points, different set up etc. But they are Australian and they are having a crack. The site has been in development for four years and until I met them in May they hadn’t heard of RB – in fact I was the one who mentioned it to them. They are great fans of Australia taking on the world and are at pains to say genuinely they hope all Aussie sites go well including RB. Anyway all that said they have a good photographic competition happening, and as I can’t enter (or judge!) I would love it if someone from RB won. It’s this: (I should point out yes they know how the name sounds and no I didn’t invent the name! But I did write every single word on the site. It’s Ph.Art -Photographic Art not the thing that comes out your…. Win A Ph.Art Print To The Value of $500 – 3 Packages To Be Won!! We’re looking for: 1. The ‘best photo’ on the Public Gallery (yes, that’s right – the Public, not your private one) 2 – The member with ‘most photos’ loaded into the Public Gallery (which means they need to make the grade) 3 – The ‘best Australian Icon photo’ in the Public Gallery – could be a person, place, object or…? Add the the code “Ozicon Comp” to the event field when you are submitting it to the gallery to enter this part of the competition. There are THREE big opportunities to unlock the artist within you and THREE big opportunities to win a print of your choice from the Ph.Art Gallery up to the value of $500 (that’s anyway you’d like it – , unframed, framed, or on canvas). Competition closing is at 6am on December 8th As I say I hope this doesn’t upset anyone-Peter and Jo have been aware I’ve been working on the site and everything I’ve done has been above board. But I figure people talk about comps here so, that’s my thinking. Good luck anyone who enters… www.phartgallery.com Go to ph.orums Mel.

Hi! to you all ! For all of you my friends that have been waiting to hear how things went today. I am so very excited about todays luncheon with the Executive Director of one of our most prestigious Retirement communities here in my city. I have been commissioned to provide all artwork for their buildings that are being renovated and updated. We are talking nothing smaller than 16×20 inch framed artwork but most 24×36 inch framed work and larger. Between 100 – 150 pieces of artwork needed. That is not the end then , there is more talk of my also providing artwork for the companies other 200 buildings across Canada. OMG ! I AM JUST VIBRATING WITH EXCITEMENT. MY BREAK HAS MANIFESTED . I’M THRILLED BEYOND WORDS. / Thank you all my friends for your wonderful support and encouragement. I’ve been not on much this past couple of months because I’ve been very busy with promoting my artwork in any way I could think of, and now it’s paying off big time. Now I will be crazy busy getting artwork printed and framed and still won’t have the time I did before, being on here.Well that’s my news . So if you are doing everything in your power to promote your work , don’t get discouraged . You never know who is watching you, and will call you up. Love & Hugs to you all , / Madeline / Maddy / SmudgeArt

We love canvas. And Paul really loves canvas – his walls are covered with the stuff. It’s a classic format for displaying all sorts of artwork. Canvas makes us so happy that we do crazy things, like reducing the price by 20% for 72 hours so you can fill your walls with it too. Here’s Paul with “Silence (Love Awaits)” by Lindsay Blamey: And as you probably won’t have believed us, we’re going to repeat it, all stretched canvas, reduced by 20%, for the next 72 hours. Or until Sunday night for those of you who don’t like numbers. / / Maybe you’ll use this chance to let everyone know about your work on RedBubble or just maybe there’s a bit of wall space at home that’s feeling a bit empty. / / And just like on Columbo, there’s one more thing: We pushed the instant gratification button and guarantee that your canvas will ship in two business days or it’s on us. And for those that love to share, upload a photo of your canvas(es) to the Buyers’ Booth in the next two weeks. We’ll reward three people with a AU$20 RedBubble gift certificate. Details: No code needed, simply checkout with a canvas (or five) in your cart. Discount calculated on base prices through Sunday. Here are a couple of close up shots of the prints themselves so you can bask in the amazing quality. Go ahead, bask, no one’s looking. Images by Narelle, Kookylane and Monkeyboy. And here are a few shots from the Buyers’ Booth. The madness ends Sunday March 29, 2009 at 11:59 US Pacific Time.

In order to make the gathering of photos and compiling of the Urban Wildlife Book easier, I thought it might be good if I could find some suitable photo file sharing software. I have found something that gives us privacy and can handle large files. This is less cumbersome than sending stuff by email, where your file size might be restricted, and has the advantage of putting everything automatically in one place, making the management of hopefully many photos, a lot easier. / / It is called Memeo Share, runs on your desktop, and will enable us to create a ‘pool’. One advantage for you is that all those partaking can see what is going on at any time, and you can also view pictures as big as your monitor will allow. The key points I was looking for were: 1. Non restrictive, must be able to handle large files. / 2. Must be private. / 3. Must allow downloading of large image files. / 4. Must allow reasonable storage per user. Memeo Share seems to fit the bill. It is easy to use, allows every user 1GB of FREE storage and it can run on your desktop. I have created a private group within the software called “Urban Wildlife Book” and the easiest way to get into it, as it is by invitation only, is to just send me an email request for an invite. I have even written one out for you! Just copy and paste the message below in an email, and send it to pix@johnhootonphotography.com Hi John, / Please send me an invite for the free Urban Wildlife Book Sharing Circle software, so that I may more easily take part in our exciting project. You will then receive a Memeo Share invite email from me which will have a link, taking you to a page where you can download the software and be part of our Exclusive Sharing Circle. I really would like as many people in our group as possible to take an active part in this project. I really think it is going to be very exciting and at the end of it, we are going to have a world class book of superb photographs. Even if you don’t think you have any pictures yourself, submit them anyway, and take part by inviting others who may have some pictures you admire, and would like to see in the book. Spread the word! I will probably create a space somewhere in our Urban Wildlife Forum soon where I can publish all ongoing news and where you can comment and discuss the project. We can then keep all the written discussion in one place instead of scattered articles in my RB Journal. I will look forward to seeing some Urban Wildlife Book Sharing Circle invite requests in my pix@johnhootonphotography.com inbox soon! Kind regards, John

So, I ordered some more tees. One of them was ‘Bored? ...... Board!’ by Nick Ford It’s a cracking design, right up my street. Lovely controlled line work with a really great concept executed perfectly. The tee turned out great. The printing on this tee is probably the best I’ve had from RedBubble, so well done guys! There are some really fine lines in the design, but they held up really well during printing. The tee: / / Look at the admiring looks I’m getting down at the beach (or it could be I have a nice butt)! Close-up print detail: / This tee deserves way more love, and whilst your over there check out some more of Nick’s work. / Thanks Nick for a great tee, keep ‘em coming.
