Taken on a section of the Great Wall of China between Jinshanling and Simatai. In the distance you can see the wall rising steeply up over the mountains at Simatai. This got accepted into the ADPA competition in 2007.

Often the storm chasing day ends not with the last glow of the setting sun, but with a photogenic show of pyrotechnics dancing from cloud to cloud and into the ground and lasting well into the night. This strike was captured just a few miles from my home after a long day of driving and looking for marvelous supercells and their awe-inspiring structures. Typically, any isolated cells that form during the day in western Oklahoma will race through the portions of Oklahoma that I call home, I just have to drive back ahead of the racing squall line and on such days will end the hunt with a tripod and a camera on this gravel road. It isn’t a part of my public offered storm chasing tours, but instead just my time to relax, snap shutters and enjoy my favorite hobby – lightning photography. I’ve always hoped for a dead centered strike at the end of this long gravel driveway. So many times I have closed my eyes and envisioned this very shot. Then, one night in 2006 after a long day’s work of hunting down tornadoes I ended my chase day in this fashion, opened the shutter and waited – “bang” – I had it! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Be sure to check out my company, StormTours.com. This image was created at the Apollo Bay Docks early in 2008, went here for a holiday just as I was getting into Photography. I went down to the docks just as a storm was rolling in and it made for some interesting weather conditions! This pic was created from one raw file. I changed the exposures in Lightroom and then merged 3 images using Photomatix, increased the blue and green saturation levels in Lightroom and added a bit of contrast. This is the result! This little gem can be found just around the corner from Loch Ard Gorge near Port Campbell off Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, Australia. I came here the afternoon before and there were snap happy tourists everywhere but decided to come back the next morning and there wasn’t a soul in sight, just the crashing ocean to keep me company… Unfortunately as of early June 2009 this archway has collapsed leaving two apostles next to eachother. Heart Reef © Vicki Ferrari A scan of an original print, taken using a Minolta SLR, back in the early 1990’s. / Heart Reef is located north of Hamilton Island, on the Great Barrier Reef, in North Queensland, Australia. It was named Heart Reef because, and obviously, it looks like a heart! / This photograph was taken from one of my regular chopper rides up on the island. I never got sick of flying in choppers, or seeing the amazing reef from the air! When you are at the Whitsundays, well worth visiting the Reef by helicopter! The view is amazing! I have fallen in love with our National Parks here in the states after viewing Ken Burns series. I had no idea after just spending time in the Great Smokey National Park how special these parks are and the work that went into creating them. Spent a week last summer with my family on the Great Ocean Road. Really struggled with poor light until sunset on the last day. Did you catch that sunset Dad, my daughter, Sarah asked….......Hell Yeah.

Originally uploaded in March ‘08, this was a capture of the storm that hit SW England that same month. / This was taken from the bridge at Dawlish Railway Station, Devon, England. / Despite the rough weather, the trains continued to run, and this stretch of track is the most expensive to maintain, due to the battering it gets from the sea. / This is a common sight in Dawlish during the winter months, and sometimes during the Summer months also. This picture was originally tonemapped by Dave Warren and I have revamped it a little bit to give it a slightly different look. Thanks again to Dave for his help with this. WIDE LOAD PLEASE VIEW LARGER This formation known as The Razorback, taken at dusk …. gotta love those clouds !!!! Situated between Apollo Bay and Port Campbell in The Port Campbell National Park are the 12 Apostles. Original named ‘The Sow and Piglets’. The name was changed in the 1950s to tempt more visitors to see them. These famous residence of The Great Ocean Road were created from the 70 meter limestone cliffs by the relentless pounding of the Southern Ocean. To date only 8 of the original 12 apostles are still standing as the ocean continues to erode and shape the coast line. How they were created The limestone rock that makes up the 12 Apostles was created through the build up of skeletons of marine creatures on the sea floor. As the sea retreated, the limestone was exposed. Over 20 million years ago the restless, stormy Southern Ocean and it’s blasting winds began attacking the soft limestone cliffs. Gradually the softer limestone eroded, forming caves in the cliffs. The caves eventually became arches and when they collapsed, rock pillars up to 45 metres high were left – The Twelve Apostles. The Apostles are eroded by the sea at a rate of approximately 2cm a year.
