The Great Blue Heron sits almost motionless, despite the raging falls. Almost unseen. Waiting. I sit waiting too, watching … these grand creatures of water and wind. Moments, hours pass. Mist from the falls graces my face. Great Blue fishes; I sit in awe and wonder from the old wooden footbridge. Flight, almost flight, colors dance against the backdrop of the water. Heron Dance. Got up for dawn at Port Campbell only for it to be drizzly and overcast, but by the time I got down to the beach and the sun started to rise some awesome colour came through and it made the early start well and truly worth it! / Settings Canon 40D, 10-22mm EF-S. This little gem can be found just around the corner from Loch Ard Gorge near Port Campbell off Victoria’s Great Ocean Road, Australia. I came here the afternoon before and there were snap happy tourists everywhere but decided to come back the next morning and there wasn’t a soul in sight, just the crashing ocean to keep me company… Unfortunately as of early June 2009 this archway has collapsed leaving two apostles next to eachother. Heart Reef © Vicki Ferrari A scan of an original print, taken using a Minolta SLR, back in the early 1990’s. / Heart Reef is located north of Hamilton Island, on the Great Barrier Reef, in North Queensland, Australia. It was named Heart Reef because, and obviously, it looks like a heart! / This photograph was taken from one of my regular chopper rides up on the island. I never got sick of flying in choppers, or seeing the amazing reef from the air! When you are at the Whitsundays, well worth visiting the Reef by helicopter! The view is amazing! Mother and child Great Blue Heron as night falls . . . I thought of the song, “Help me make it through the night” while I worked on this piece. I’d be remiss if I didn’t give my husband Tommy credit for this photo. He saw the mother and child as he was driving in St. Mary Parish. He pointed them out to me, turned the vehicle around, and positioned the truck so I could get this shot. Without his keen eyes, I would have missed this endearing scene. Thank you, Tommy; I couldn’t do it without you!
