Stormy weather and sunlight over the Twelve Apostles, Great Ocean Road
Often the storm chasing day ends not with the last glow of the setting sun, but with a photogenic show of pyrotechnics dancing from cloud to cloud and into the ground and lasting well into the night. This strike was captured just a few miles from my home after a long day of driving and looking for marvelous supercells and their awe-inspiring structures. Typically, any isolated cells that form during the day in western Oklahoma will race through the portions of Oklahoma that I call home, I just have to drive back ahead of the racing squall line and on such days will end the hunt with a tripod and a camera on this gravel road. It isn’t a part of my public offered storm chasing tours, but instead just my time to relax, snap shutters and enjoy my favorite hobby – lightning photography. I’ve always hoped for a dead centered strike at the end of this long gravel driveway. So many times I have closed my eyes and envisioned this very shot. Then, one night in 2006 after a long day’s work of hunting down tornadoes I ended my chase day in this fashion, opened the shutter and waited – “bang” – I had it! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Be sure to check out my company, StormTours.com. It’s a great opportunity for anyone who wants to chase storms to improve their lightning photography skills and see awe-inspiring photogenic storms. www.stormtours.com AND www.stormchase.com

One of my favourite images the light was perfect and the sky a beautiful contrast. This is taken at Airey’s Inlet on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria and called The Split Point Lighthouse. It is also known as White Lady or White Queen.
This image was created at the Apollo Bay Docks early in 2008, went here for a holiday just as I was getting into Photography. I went down to the docks just as a storm was rolling in and it made for some interesting weather conditions! This pic was created from one raw file. I changed the exposures in Lightroom and then merged 3 images using Photomatix, increased the blue and green saturation levels in Lightroom and added a bit of contrast. This is the result! This is my most viewed image on RedBubble Click here for my other images of Victoria
Driving along today I spotted this container, so had to go back home and get my camera! I have no idea what the chinese words say, but I can hazard a guess. I was drawn in by the clean strong lines created by the late afternoon sun contrasting with the grungy rusty bits down below. More in this series: /

The words of the old hymn that inspired the title: When morning gilds the skies my heart awaking cries: / May Jesus Christ be praised! / Alike at work and prayer, to Jesus I repair: / May Jesus Christ be praised! When you begin the day, O never fail to say, / May Jesus Christ be praised! / And at your work rejoice, to sing with heart and voice, / May Jesus Christ be praised!
An edit of a photo i took at Cape Otway Lighthouse just of Victoria’s Great Ocean Road in Australia a few months ago on the 28th of February 2008. HDR’d in Photomatix from one RAW file . Found a pic of some birds i took at Elwood Beach a while ago and added them in Photoshop. Some tweaking was also done in Lightroom including the black and white conversion and above is the end result. The Lighthouse is just one of many beautiful attractions in the Great Otway National Park. CAPE Otway Lightstation is the oldest, surviving lighthouse in mainland Australia. The light, which has been in continuous operation since 1848, is perched on towering sea cliffs where Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean collide. For thousands of immigrants, after many months at sea, Cape Otway was their first sight of land after leaving Europe. Dawn at Jan Juc Beach, on the Great Ocean Road.
Taken from the parking lot at Clingmans Dome,GSMNP. The mountain was named for Brigadier General Thomas Lanier Clingman, by Arnold Guyot a geographer. Clingman in the 1850’s was the first to accurately measure the height of the mountain. The mountain was called Kuwa’hi (the mulberry place) by the Cherokee. This is where the legendary great bear chief and doctor dwelled. In whose magic bath the wounded bears are restored to health…Settlers first called it Smoky Dome then later was called Mount Buckley before Guyot named it offically

The Blowhole on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria “After the wreck of the Loch Ard, eleven bodies floated in the waters below. / At night following the wreck, the Blowhole glowed with an eerie purple light from wax vestas (phosphorous matches) washed in from the cargo. / / The Blowhole is connected to the sea by a long narrow tunnel. When heavy seas are running, waves compress air trapped in the tunnel and enter the cavern with a loud roar. The tunnel extends 100 meters inland from here and is gradually being enlarged by the force of the sea. This is part of my Reflection series on the coast of Victoria, I hope this image reflects the mood of the amazing place.
