In Great Basin National Park in Nevada you can take a short hike to these pine trees. We got there as the sun set and time was short, but I liked this one.

Looking out from a cave on an eroding peninsular which will eventually become another free standing stack (or apostle). One step further back and it’s a very high plunge into the ocean. This section is now closed to the public due to erosion and obvious safety reasons. Taken c 1980. ‘The Twelve Apostles’, Great Ocean Road coastline, Port Campbell National Park, Victoria, Australia. Taken in the afternoon haze as clouds roll over the mainland from the Southern Ocean, looking toward the Eastern members of the twelve apostles.

When my children were toddlers I would take them camping in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. We’d always visit this one expanse of the Pigeon River where it was fairly tame. It had a lot of fabulous rock arrangements woven into the flow of the water and when I stumbled onto this little waterfall, I knew I wanted to paint it. Taken at Loch Ard Gorge on the Great Ocean Road, VIC. This was shot with a Mamiya RZ67 on Ilford Pan F 50 ISO film. Only other details I remember was that it was shot with a 50mm lens, equivalent to about 24mm in 35mm format. I hand developed the film myself, scanned it and added the sepia toning with Photoshop. Antelope island is the largest of the Great Salt Lake’s 10 islands. From the mainland, its 28,022 acres appear barren and deserted. But Antelope Island is home to a variety of flora and fauna native to the Great Basin region. This is a great place to view wildlife. The island was without its namesake antelope for many years, but they were reintroduced in 1993 and can now be seen in many areas of the park. Deer, bobcats, coyotes, many varieties of birds and waterfowl also call the island home. But most famous are Antelope Island’s American Bison, introduced to the island in 1893 and now numbering some 600 animals

The Great Alpine Road is a 308-kilometre route that extends from Wangaratta in the north-east to Bairnsdale in the heart of Gippsland. The road is Australia’s highest year-round accessible sealed road and winds past lofty mountains, valleys, forests, rivers, vineyards and farms. Sample local food and wine, and fish, cycle, climb or ride along the way. / The Great Alpine Road (B500)1 is a country tourist road in Victoria, Australia, running from Wangaratta in the north to Bairnsdale in the east, and passing through the Australian Alps. The road was given its current name as being the mountain equivalent to Victoria’s world famous Great Ocean Road in the south-west of the state[citation needed]. The Great Alpine Road3 winds through mountains, valleys and forests, and past rivers, vineyards and farms. At a length of 303 kilometres, it is Australia’s highest year-round accessible sealed road. The section over Mount Hotham rises to an altitude of 1840m,[4] is blanketed with snow during winter months and must be cleared on a daily basis. Extreme weather conditions can sometimes still result in the road being closed between Harrietville and Omeo. The Great Alpine Road links Victoria’s North East with Gippsland. It was completed with the sealing of the section between Mount Hotham and Dinner Plain and was officially opened on the 4th of April, 1998.[citation needed] The road itself has existed since colonial times in some form, but was unsealed for much of its history, and was only given the Great Alpine Road designation after being fully sealed.[citation needed] The current Great Alpine Road includes the former Ovens Highway from Wangaratta to Bright, and a former section of the Omeo Highway from Omeo to Bruthen,[5] along with the section of the Princes Highway from Bruthen to Bairnsdale. Attractions include the Mount Buffalo National Park, popular tourist town Bright, the Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain alpine resorts, the historic gold rush township of Omeo, and stunning views and challenging driving along its length.
