This is just so sad to me, that families can not even get a sense of closure and have a place to mourn the loss of their family member. Any US Veterans Cemetary is just littered with these gravemarkers for Unkown Soldiers. How can you give it all for your country, and then not even be recognized by name? HDR image captured at the Hampton National Cemetary, Hampton, VA. HDR Images / Prague Images / Aviation Related Images

Ink drawing on paper from 2006. If you are ever accosted by hungry zombies I suggest doing your best George Bush impersonation and they should leave you alone. After this picture I did a project called Nothing Stays Buried in which I buried and unearthed objects and then drew them. I then buried and unearthed the drawings as well. Drawings from that book include Pocket Dictionary, Materials, Suitcase, Toy Guitar and Sneakers.

One artist on Red Bubble whose work I admire very much is Daniela M. Casalla. Daniela makes visually stunning, masterfully created Digital Fine Art with great concepts as the starting point in her creative process. The resulting image at the end of that creative and inspired journey is wonderful to look at, interesting to ponder, and strongly based in intelligent design and sublime Artistry. Feeling inspired to act, I offered Daniela any one of my images to be used as an element in one of her brilliant pieces of Digital Art. Daniela chose one of my photos called ” Taken By God ” and used it as a part of her creation of this image for me called ” Taken ”. She is a fine Artist, and a very nice lady with a humble and friendly attitude – a great RB friend ! I feel honored to have participated in a small way in the creation of one of her great creations.

I know this might appear a bit morbid but I thought it might interest some of you who are interested in History. The gravestone is dated 17 hundred and something , the something I couldn’t make out. / It reads: / Mourn not for me my Parents Dear / I am not dead but sleeping here / My Debt is paid my Grave you see / Prepare for Death and follow me / Afflictions Sore Long time I bore / physicians were in vain. till God did please / to ease my pain and to his side I soar

A day in Whitby, on the way up to the Abbey is St Mary’s Church where Bram Stoker penned Dracula. The path through is in places much lower than the grass than weaves around the ancient graves. This was taken at pretty much floor level, with the sun illuminating the grass and headstones.

John P. Cable Mill – Great Smoky Mountain National Park, USA In Cades Cove there were few sources of power which the frontiersman knew how to harness. One of those power sources was the water wheel such as drove the early grist mills. Cable Mill is one of those. The Smoky Mountains Natural History Association keeps Cable Mill running in Cades Cove to teach the Smoky Mountain visitor a little about life in the 1800’s. The mill is operated April-October. A handful of enterprising residents in Cades Cove built water driven mills to grind grain. Their hope was that other Cades Cove families would prefer paying them to grind the grain rather than to struggle with the small inefficient tub mills at home. The tub mills were only capable of processing a bushel of corn each day. The entrepreneurs were correct and ran fine business in Cades Cove as a result. Cornmeal was the only grain that could be ground in the tub mills and so the waterwheel driven mills that could grind wheat into flour was a welcome addition to the cove. Now biscuits could be eaten some of the time instead of cornbread. Payment for grinding grain did not always mean money exchanged hands in Cades Cove. Sometimes money was paid but other times the miller was paid a portion of the resulting flour or meal. Besides John Cable, his son and also Frederick Shields operated mills. Cable and Shields took double advantage of their waterwheel by using it to power saw mills as well. Cable was the only person in Cades Cove to use the overshot water wheel. Like most business men in the Cove, Cable was also a farmer. He could be summoned from the fields by a large bell he had on the property for that purpose.
