  • Dark Star
    by JenLand

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Apophysis fractal no postwork except cropping. It’s a two for one! I couldn’t decide which song I liked best, I’ve been a huge fan of Crosby, Stills and Nash forever and also the Grateful Dead. I like each tune equally!! So…... not to decide is to decide! heh heh Here’s Crosby, Stills & Nash’s Dark Star with some very cool fractal looping video, how apropos huh?! Lyrics: / Forgive me if my fantasies might seem a little shopworn / I’m sure you’ve heard it all before I wonder what’s the right form / Love songs written for you it’s been going down for years / But to sing what’s in my heart seems more honest than the tears I am curious / Don’t want to hurry us / I’m intrigued with us / Ain’t this song a bust / I don’t care dark star I met you several years ago / The times they were so strange but I had a feeling / You looked into my eyes just once / An instant flashing by that we were stealing Another time you felt so bad / And I wasn’t any help at all as I recall / We didn’t know quite what to do so we left the wanting be / Still there for me and you Dark star I see you in the morning / Dark star a’ sleeping next to me / Dark star let the memory of the evening / Be the first thing that you think of / When you open up your smile and see me dark star It’s easy to be with you / Even with the storms that rage beneath your search for peace / We must make some time together / Take the kids and find a world that’s ours to keep Now you’ve got me dreaming girl / It’s been so long that I thought that I’d forgotten how / My heart is once again my soul / We touched we did you know we did no more teasing now / / Chorus Let the memory of the evening / Be the first thing that you think of / When you open up your smile and see me dark star And then, here’s an awesome Grateful Dead jam called Dark Star as well with an equally cool and trippy video! I love these lyrics….... Dark star crashes, pouring its light into ashes. / Reason tatters, the forces tear loose from the axis. / Searchlight casting for faults in the clouds of delusion. / Shall we go, you and I while we can / Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds? Mirror shatters in formless reflections of matter. / Glass hand dissolving to ice petal flowers revolving. / Lady in velvet recedes in the nights of good-bye. / Shall we go, you and I while we can / Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds?

  • Peggy O
    by MoonSpiral

    US$3.99–US$91.20

9×12 pastel on Tiziano paper This is a tribute to Jerry Garcia. I was recently watching a video of him singing “Peggy O” in 1994. He gets very emotional during the song and it brought tears to my eyes. This show was about one year before he died. By 1994 The Grateful Dead had become a money-making machine. My generation was kind of the last generation Jerry sung to (those of us in our thirties now). / Jerry Garcia became a musician at a very crucial time in American history. He was part of the whole folk music movement that included Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and a host of other greats. These musicians were discovering the wealth of music that came from the past and they only wanted to share the songs with the world. / “Peggy O” is one of those old ballads that probably made Jerry fall in love with music. The oldest version being an old Scottish ballad. As Jerry sings it in 1994 I think he is feeling some regret for what was lost. Whatever he was feeling, when I watch this video I feel the beauty of the song. / This is Peggy O, a woman like a dove. She wouldn’t marry sweet William because he was only a soldier. William gets angry and dies in battle. I really love folk music because it is mythical in nature. / I hope you are still singing this song somewhere Jerry!!!!! link to Jerry singing Peggy O

After falling in love with Ukiyo-e (Japanese Block Prints), I set out on an adventure to create a few pieces inspired by the magnificent art form. However, I wanted to bring the style into modern times… just a little. ;)

  • The surviving core members of The Grateful Dead reunited for a performance at Barack Obama’s Mid-Atlantic Inaugural Ball. / The group’s performance was divided into two short sets which were built around speeches by President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. The sextet started things off with a cover of Martha and the Vandellas’ adopted Civil Rights anthem “Dancin’ In the Streets,” which had served as Phil Lesh and Friends’ encore on the night after Obama’s election. The group then ran through “Uncle John’s Band” and “Sugar Magnolia,” as well as “Eyes of the World,” before stepping aside so “very special guest” Vice President Biden could address the audience. The Dead then returned to the stage for a three-song performance featuring the anthems “The Wheel,” “Touch of Grey” and “Box of Rain” before clearing the stage for the Obamas’ grand entrance. / / / I saw this bumpersticker and took this photo with mycanon powershot A530

  • Ripple in Still Water
    by JenLand

    US$3.99–US$91.20

apophysis 2.02 Love this Grateful Dead Song, though my favorite version of it is with Jerry and David Grisman on the mandolin. Couldn’t find a decent clip of them performing it together so this one is good too. :o) Lyrics: If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine / And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung / Would you hear my voice come through the music / Would you hold it near as it were your own? It’s a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken / Perhaps they’re better left unsung / I don’t know, don’t really care / Let there be songs to fill the air Ripple in still water / When there is no pebble tossed / Nor wind to blow Reach out your hand if your cup be empty / If your cup is full may it be again / Let it be known there is a fountain / That was not made by the hands of men There is a road, no simple highway / Between the dawn and the dark of night / And if you go no one may follow / That path is for your steps alone Ripple in still water / When there is no pebble tossed / Nor wind to blow You who choose to lead must follow / But if you fall, you fall alone / If you should stand, then who’s to guide you / If I knew the way I would take you home
